What temp will cause burns?

I have a spot in my tank that will occasionally reach 96 degrees even though my thermostat is set at 89. Its usually not that hot, but im worried about it. What temps will cause burns to my leo? He doesnt ever lay in this spot, but it still concerns me.

96 is fine, although that's the hottest you want it to be. I would only be concerned if it gets around 100

Never had a burned animal. Seen a lot. Mainly due to burrowing (loose) substrate or our good friend the heat rock and various other stuff.
