Catching teeth on mat

Hello, I was just a little concerned... Our sick gecko, Oreo, has been eating very good as of lately...But when I set the mealworm or cricket on the floor, on the reptiles carpet, he tends to get his teeth stuck. I was wondering, incase he swallowed any little threads, if they were digestible. None of my other geckos have this problem. Thanks if you can answer

Reptile Carpet is a BIG no no IMO. Not only does it injure the animal and cause pain but removes vital parts of its anatomy used for hunting, eating, etc...

Try Duck Brand Shelf Liner (non-perforated) or Tile and you won't have to worry about it ever again.

Use paper towel for now.

I had this problem when my gecko was a baby. You might want to make sure you have it flipped on the right side. One side of the carpet is a bit more fuzzy and the other side the fibers are compact. The smooth, compact side should be facing upward. That usually eliminates the problem. If your carpet is becoming fuzzy from being washed it might be time to replace it. Also I hope little Oreo feels better! Maybe if he is sick you should keep him on paper towel for now to make cleaning easier. :)

You can also run an iron over each side and melt down the loops. Tile or paper towels are better options though just for sanitary purposes.

I bought a piece of natural.slate tile at home depot for under $2.00
Depending on the size of your habitat it may need cut though. I agree paper towel is.best for now.

I think I'll try getting rid of the loose things on the reptile carpet...If that doesn't help we'll get something else

What do you mean by that?

Reptile Carpet is known to catch and extract teeth and claws. Their are many YouTube videos that show this. I have witnessed it first hand on a handful of occasions.

When a Leopard Gecko strikes at prey it can easily get teeth caught in it. Merely walking on it can catch their claws.

If you cannot afford Duck Brand Shelf Liner (non-perforated) or Tile from Lowes or Home depot for substrate you may in the meantime use Paper Towels.

It is difficult to clean and short of running it through a washing machine it may collect bacteria. That may not solve this bacteria issue.

If you need me to make it simpler feel free to ask.

Best Wishes
