Questions about Crested Geckos?

Hello! I am new to this website and have been taking a look around.
I've been wanting a Crested Gecko for a while now and once I save up enough extra money I am planning on buying one along with everything it may need.
I have been reading up on them and it seems a lot of people have different opinions on what Crested Geckos need (care-wise) such as heating and feeding.

I was wondering if anyone who has had experience with Crested Geckos may help me out by answering some of my questions. It would help me out a lot and give me a better estimate on what all I would need to buy.

My questions:

- Is a 20 gallon tank enough for one Crested Gecko?
- Opinions on Repashy's Crested Gecko diet?
- If you like it, what else would you suggest to feed your Gecko along with it (if anything)?

Again, I'd like to gather as many opinions on what all goes into caring for a Crested Gecko so I can get a good idea.
I've never cared for a gecko so I apologize if these seem like super simple questions.

If you have any other hints that you think would be helpful to me, please feel free to add them. I'd really appreciate it.

Thanks so much~

like with many things about animal care, you're not going to get one simple answer. some people give their geckos supplemental heat and some don't. some of this depends on the temp in your house, of course, but there are varying opinions on the "correct" temperature.
in reality, there's a range where they live. there's probably a range in your house. if the two intersect, you're fine. if you feel like your gecko's not warm enough, give him a little heat. either way, he will likely thrive. most questions about animal care are similarly answered.

so: 20 gallon. IMO, it's fine if it's placed on end and converted to a vertical space.

diet: there are a billion threads on here and a billion opinions. I'd try a few diets and see what your gecko likes. my personal philosophy is that probably none of the available diets are actually perfect or correct; I feed 2-3 different diets mixed and also well-gutloaded dubia nymphs or crickets too. again, there's a lot of variation here and you won't get just one answer. you'll have to see what several other folks say and then make your best judgement, and adjust accordingly.

cresties are very forgiving, for the most part.

I just want to add a little something off of what aimless said for the tank, make sure he/she has a lot of cover from either real plants or fake, or hides or tubing or such, cresties feel safer, protected, and happier when they can hide, and don't forget to let him acclimate to his new habitat BEFORE handling him, give him about a week or 2, and try not to shift anything during that period as to not disorient him :) . I also just want to add, I myself use Repashy and have great results with it, but you should use a few very trusted foods (ones mentioned frequently for high ratings, not something you just find that you've never heard of unless you know it has good views) and have your gecko try them, geckos have different tastes like we do, but please don't just feel him straight baby food or just crickets, crrsted geckos need a good meal replacement powder and dusted bugs such as crickets or roaches

I was thinking about what I could use for hiding spots for him. Would paper towel rolls work well? (Just as one hiding spot, I would do my best to add others)
Oh yes, I'll let him get acclimated before I start handling him.
Thanks for replying and giving me some help! I appreciate it ^^

Thanks for getting back to me! I was thinking I would have to have him try different things which suits me fine. I'll definitely keep all your input in mind through the process of getting one.

@CrestedL
I'm afraid that might be a long while. I'm too young to get a job right now so I don't have much income. It'll probably be next year before I can get one. If you're willing to stick with me that long until I do acquire a tank and a set-up then I'd love to show you some pictures.
It's just going to take a while. Sorry D:

I would love to!

Unfortunately I probably wont be able to afford things until after Christmas (around next year) for him to have a good habitat and everything he needs. (Along with him)
I might possibly be able to buy the supplies early so a picture of the set-up might come a bit sooner.

I just wanted to gather as much as information as I could so I know everything I need and the right questions to ask once I go to the shop to look around.
I know it's super early ^^'

I have a couple more questions I have come up with if you wouldn't mind answering them?

Uh, just a question, if you plan on getting a gecko but not setting up a habitat first then what do you plan on keeping him in

Oh, no! I plan on getting his habitat and tank set up first before I go get him. Sorry if I implied that I was going to get him first.
I'll definitely be buying everything he needs first so when I bring him home he has everything ready for him to get settled in.

I'm just saying that gathering all the money I would need to buy supplies and the actual Gecko, will take a while. So I probably would not have a picture of the habitat (like you asked for) for a bit.
If that makes any more sense?
Sorry

Also, if you wouldn't mind answering one more question. I've read through the FAQ and looked at what it suggests for Substrate. I've heard that paper towels can make maintaining the humidity sorta difficult. So I was wondering what your opinion was on that and other substrates (such as Eco Earth or any Exoterra substrates that would be safe for a Crested Gecko)?

I would suggest paper towel as a starting substrate lets you easily be able to spot poops to check if he's eating, is easily cleanable, and won't impact (impaction happens when they eat the dirt and it essentially gets stuck, will kill them)him since he has slim chance of him eating it

Okay, thank you for answering my questions. Sorry for the confusion!
I appreciate your help and like I said, I will try and get a picture of the habitat once I have it so you can look at it.
Thanks again~
