My leopard gecko is very odd, and has previously been given a clean bill of health despite going on massive months-long fasts. She is senior (12 or so) and usually rarely loses much weight (more than 10 grams) on these fasts but the most recent one is making her skinny. I am seeing the vet about this and do not need an online diagnosis, as I will be getting an in-person one. However, the vet office refused one of the few samples she has made during this fast as they refuse to run tests prior to the appointment. Of course, fecals need to be within 24 hours or so and refrigerated for maximum efficacy.
I have experience collecting fecals from her as well as with light syringe feeding (through licking lips) that the vet has recommended I perform occasionally during these fasts. We use carnivore care for this. Do you have any recommendations on when I should syringe feed her, both to space out the stress from the vet appointment and to try to get as fresh a sample as possible? How long will the food pass through her digestive system, and what day would you recommend I feed her if I want to refrigerate the sample Thursday night? Thanks.
