Hello everyone,
I've just started breeding correlophus ciliatus back in September, and so far I've had some pretty good luck. One of my last clutches from one of my females had a dud and the one surviving egg was past due my estimated hatch date. (by the averages of the previous two, which both clutches hatched healthy babies that are still kicking) The average length seems to be around 80 days. It extended up to 92 days, which I decided to inspect the egg by cutting it. I hoped the baby would come out active, however it didn't. (I learned this was probably a mistake) It laid lifeless, occasionally seeming to gasp for air. I kept it isolated hoping it would come around, but after a few days, it died. The egg had gotten very large.
Now I have two eggs that are really swollen and have past my estimate. I know I probably should give a few more days but I'm concerned about these eggs too, and don't plan making a cutting mistake again. Other females my male bred with are dropping eggs and babies are hatching exactly on the dot by my estimate. This female did too.
Any info would help if i should be concern. Thanks
