Mouth Rot?

Hello! This is my first post here and I’m just looking for a little guidance. My leopard gecko is around 2 years old and about a month ago she injured herself during a shed resulting in a cut on her upper lip. I cleaned it every day and kept everything in her tank clean and it had seemed to heal. Unfortunately now it looks like it has gotten infected, her upper lip doesn’t quite line up with her bottom lip and there is what looks like a yellow crust, but it doesn’t come off when I clean it with a Q-Tip.

I am going to take her to the vet, but I am VERY nervous because I have to go to a new vet and I am always weary about how much knowledge they actually have about reptiles when they say they specialize in small animals. So I am looking for some guidance on what kind of treatment would be normal for suspected mouth rot or mouth infection. My gecko is active, happy, poops and eats well so I just want to get this infection taken care of and be able to understand the vet’s treatment options.

Thank you!

I wouldn't try to treat it myself. I'd try to find a vet that treats reptiles. They can be found. Sometimes a bit of a drive, but it can be worth it. Good luck with your pet, and let us know how it turns out.

Thanks for your reply. I wasn’t going to treat her myself and I am taking her to the vet. I was looking for information on how a vet would normally treat a mouth infection so I can be knowledgable on the right course of action when we are at the vet.

I would suspect that they would probably try antibiotics, and maybe some kind of topical treatment as well.
