New giant day gecko owner!

Hi everyone! I've had my giant day gecko almost a month now and have some questions... Just put some mealworms in the tank. This is the first time I've seen him/her go right to the bowl and eat them....he's upside down with his tail hanging down...is that normal? Also he doesn't seem to like or go after crickets. Are mealworms sufficient?
And can you tell me if it's male or female?
