Hey there,
I have a 4 year old female gecko named Sophie. At the moment, she is on her "winter fast" - every year she stops eating from around January to March. Anyways, I had a bit of a panic the other day because I picked her up and saw what looked to be a large, dark splotch on her belly that I'd never seen there before, and she was looking a bit bloated. Got her in to the vet and he said basically she's ovulating, and her growing egg-spot things (sorry, don't know the right word, are they eggs at this point?) shifted her organs and pressed her liver/gall bladder against her skin, so they were a lot more visible than normal. He gave me some dewormer just as a routine thing he recommends doing twice a year. He bred geckos for 20 years, so I trust his assessment with respect to the spot, but Sophie is still acting pretty differently. She's very lethargic, she pretty much just lays in the same spot on her cool side (~75F) all day, sleeping. If I pick her up she perks up for a minute, but pretty much just lays down once I set her down. Other than that, she doesn't seem like, distressed or in pain or anything. I know lethargy is a common thing with ovulation, I just don't know if this is a normal amount of it! She was abnormally active about a month ago, so the change wasn't immediate but was pretty noticeable. I'm a bit afraid to give her the dewormer when she's not eating and acting so tired - I know it's a little rough on their systems. Is this normal breeding season stuff? It's just strange because this is the first year she's done anything other than stop eating, but I also have never noticed her ovulating until now either. Probably just being paranoid, but would love to hear from some people with more experience than I have! Thanks!
