Experimental 1,215 Gallon Equivalent Grow Tent Enclosure

Hello, you may remember my post of my leopard gecko’s 55 gallon bioactive enclosure. Well now I’m experimenting with a grow tent as her new enclosure upgrade.

The grow tent is 6.5x5x5 ft, 78x60x60 inch, 198x152x152 cm, 1,215 gallon equivalent.

The basking area is a 4x2 ft frame garden bed with 3 par38 halogens and a 46 inch T5 5.0 UVB lamp with a reflector. The rest of the grow tent is forested.

Asia(the name of my gecko) has been in this for a little over a month now and so far she seems to love the space provided. I hope I don’t ever

have to downgrade her, and I’m thinking about an actual polycarbonate greenhouse in the future.Grow tent left side.jpg

One 'ultimate' question is: How do you manage feeding Asia?
The second question: 'Is she present in any of these images?
Asia is typically in the rock hide that’s right next to the sea grass hammock, so reaching her to see if she wants to eat has been easy so far (she’s currently on her yearly fast, so she stopped eating before she was finally in the grow tent to live in it).

If by present you mean not inside of one of her caves, then no unfortunately.

All I can say is wow! You know that this may be bigger than some people's living space (well, maybe not) and I bet her rent is a lot lower. I know there can be worry about her finding her food in such a big space. I have to say that I had a hatchling escape one summer and she was found two years later in my house, having survived several winters and successfully fed herself (she was a reasonable weight) in the whole house.

Thanks soooo much, Digs, for sharing your ongoing commitment to lifelong husbandry above & beyond all 'norms' for your leopard gecko Asia wherever you may 'travel'. At this rate Asia might live longer than Esther Laue's leo Grossmutterchen who's approximately 45 years old & lives in Germany with her keeper!

Thank you I appreciate the compliments, but I think Esther Laue allowing her leos to completely hibernate plays a bigger role in their long lifespan than the enclosure size. I’ve been considering getting an incubator with a cooling option so then I can put Asia into a full state of hibernation rather than semi-hibernation.

I spy 2 beady little eyes!

Thanks sooooo much for sharing Asia prowling beneath her Wyze night vision camera!
There's NO question whether she's thriving in her huge grow tent!!!
