My update on Neo.
The routine of force feeding settled in well, and NEO stopped fighting (although he still bit!) Crickets eventually had to come off the menu - as he simply refused to eat them. Roaches became a substitute for a while, but a reluctance to swallow then developed, resulting in...
A week or so ago I thought I saw "black" at that back of Neos mouth. Fearing possible mouthrot, I checked his mouth again about 10-15mins later, and it was clear. Phew!
Last night, after the feeding ritual I once again saw "black" but this time was able to check his mouth just a minute or so...
Its been a couple of weeks since we had to start force feeding NEO. Despite NEO's very strong objections to our interventions, my son and I work together to ensure he eats.
I genuinely believe NEO doesnt like crickets anymore, as he spits them out as many times as I put them in his mouth...
There is a long thread in the health section (under "moving on from loss of appetite...") explaining the reasons and process to where I am now, but as I am looking specifically now on force feeding, I am also using this section.
The situation is that I have a blind Gecko (confirmed by vet)...
I have spent the past 48 hours avidly monitoring NEO and his interests in food (pretty non existent) and over that time, I am more convinced that he cannot actually see the food or other objects. He seems to bump his nose an awful lot as he is walking around the enclosure, Tonight I have put...
Hi
Temperature in dry hide is monitored by thermometer that holds a memory of a set period of time - so over the past week or so, the min was 88.4 and maximum 95. The moist hide is also in the warm zone with moss - humidity usually between 50-55%. Substrate is tile.
Pictures (if I am...
NEO has generally been doing really well over the past 6 months or so since he had his new set up, but I have noticed over the last week that he is not really eating. There has been no change to his diet - mainly crickets, with the odd hopper and/or dubai roach. Feeders fed with green leaves...
I am still a novice at this but when I first had Neo, one question that I had searched endlessly for the answer to was why my leo never came out of his hide - even during the evening. I hope this post will help others that are searching for that answer too
The pet store that we purchased Neo...
Neo is quite happy with his diet of crickets (without legs now and much easier for him go catch!!!) but someone said it was risky only having one feeder.... Should i introduce other food (would be mealworms if anything) or just leave him on the crickets alone?
I was eavesdropping on a conversation today between the reptile section manager of local store, and a new gecko owner, and was surprised (shocked?) at the level of information being given which conflicted with majority of posts here. True, everyone has their own opinion but the discussion...
this may be a daft question, but here goes...
Neo now has a nice new wooden enclosure that we are setting up, but I am not sure about the UTH, as its not a tank now - its a wooden enclosure. Do I still need an under tank heater or is there a different kind that is better for wooden enclosures...
Can I first say thank you to all you lovely people who give up your time helping newbies like myself - you were all great when I had my first setup, and the removal of sand has made life so much easier....but I think now its time to upgrade again
Neo was sold as a Juvenile back in September, so...
Thanks for your suggestions re the tank for NEO, all changes are now made and he is having a good look around. So whilst he was making an appearance, I took a picture to show him off.
Hi, we have had our gecko for a little over 2 months now and he settled in really well. My son can now regularly handle NEO with no obvious signs of distress. However we have noticed a few changes which I hope you can help me with as petstore owners seem to contradict each other!
As said, NEO...
