Findng eggs: need some creative ideas...

Okay. Well, I have cresties, and they are going to be living in a large (18" Wx6'Lx2'H) natural viv. The thing is I want them to breed in this tank also. The problem I have is that the whole bottom of the terrarium is covered in a coco fiber/fir bark mix about 3 inches deep. I need to have a way...

    Sexing Cresties?

I have seen quite a bit about sexing these guys, but I was wondering if anyone knows of/can post a guide that shows how to do it. I have heard things, but I really don't have pictures to go with the words. I know the hemipenal bulge, but the whole "pore" business I don't understand. Can someone...

What Do you Guys Do When Your Away with Humidity?

Well, I plan to eventually breed cresties, and sometimes we are out for a weekend or a week. What do you guys do to keep humidity up? I was wondering because even though we aren't going anywhere soon, we will at the end of the year. Thanks.

    Getting 4 new babies Tues.

I am getting 4 new cresties tuesday from Bill of The Pet Zone (zonepets.com). They are all juvis and just too cute. They have really nice coloring, and one of them will have a central location in my breeding project regardless if its a male or female. Just wanted to vent my excitement! TS

Here is my new vivarium for my Crested geckos. I only have one for now, but soon I will have a few females to go along with him. The tank is 2' H x 6' L x 18" W. I used bamboo secured by silicone which is covered by a bit of caulk. Here are some pics: My Baby in his entirety. He is a pastel...

    How do Cresties sleep?

Well, being that apparently Cresties have no eyelids, which is the reason for them cleaning they're eyes with their tongues, do they sleep with their eyes open? How can you tell a sleeping crested from an awake one? I was just thinking about this today and got me thinking. Thanks. TS

Can CGD be stored already made?

I sometimes go one little family vacations and have people feed my animals. The thing is I don't want these people to have to mix my CGD. Can I mix it with water and put it in an airtight container in my fridge and store it that way, or does it go bad? Thanks. TS

    Using Hovabator Questions...

I will soon be having crested eggs I need to incubate. I would like to use a Hovabator thermal air incubator. I understand that there is a thermostat wafer that you must adjust to the right temperature in the incubator and it will keep it at that temperature? Do I use a digital thermometer with...

    Inbreeding: Facts/opinions

Ok. I am going to be breeding Crested Geckos. I plan on getting a few females to start, and then hatch out a few babies and get more females. I have a quite large tank (6'Lx18"Wx2'H) and I wanted to be able to fill it with some of the offspring I produced. But if I do this, obviously with only...

    Picking up Crested Geckos

How exactly do you pick up a crested gecko? DO you come from above and grab it around the midsection, or do you let it crawl onto your hand, or do you scoop it up? I am kind of confused with this. Thanks. TS

    Humidity

My tank is quite large (6'Lx2'Hx18"W). I was planning on using my fogger in this tank for my cresties, as even though it would keep the tank at 100% for a short period, it wouldn't be constantly running so it would stay a little higher at times and fluctuate. I was planning on misting, but only...

Will Crested Geckos Keep Defining Markings from Hatchling to Adult?

Well I was thinking the other day...I want to breed crested geckos, but being the kind of person I am, I want to be able to monitor which baby is which. Well, I know that they change their overall color from hatchling to adult, but do they keep like certain "defining" markings, like say a...

    Heating a Large Tank...

I have a 6' L X 2' H x 18" W tank that is w/o heating 67*. I need to heat it to around 75* for the cresties I am going to put in there. How would you heat this? I was thinking Ceramic heat emitter, but this might not be good b/c it will be harder to distribute the heat and there will be hot...

Are Males more readily available than Females?

It seems to me anywhere I go any sexed cresties are usually male and I have seen very few females. Is there a reason for this? Or am I just noticing a pattern that really doesn't have anything to do with anything? TS

Vermiculite in Terrariums: can it be used?

I am making a natural viv for my cresties and for absorbtion and aeration I was going to use vermiculite around the base of the plants and covering this with cocofiber. That way excess water around the roots can be absorbed. Will these be harmful in any way to my geckos the way it is used? TS

    Can young geckos be 'marked'?

In the future I want to start breeding crested geckos and the thing is, with their color fluctuations throughout their life cycle, they will be hard to keep track of or tell apart. I was wondering if there was a way of marking them with some kind of substance that would give them like a blue or...

What do you guys use as climbing branches in natural vivs?

What do you guys use as climbing perches for arboreal species in natural vivariums? I know bamboo is widely used, but anything else that has more of a "bark" texture I can get online? Thanks. TS

Plants for a Crested Gecko Terrarium

I have a relatively large tank(6' L x 2' H x 18" D) that I plan on housing crested geckos in. I know it is overkill, but I would like to make this a natural enclosure with a breeding group. If all goes well, I would like the eggs to be laid and hatch in the normal tank, as I will provide enough...
