I was wondering what everyone's strategies are with breeding rarer species of geckos, and what efforts people go to to ensure they have good genetic diversity in their groups.
I ask because I have always preferred the idea of having two pairs (2.2) (or more) that are unrelated, rather than a...
I seem to have accidentally cultured some snails in a few of my vivaria. I think they must have come in as eggs on a few sticks that I collected locally.
Anyway, they are quite small snails and I have a lot of them now. I was wondering if anyone could identify them for me? Because of their...
I recorded this a while back when I reintroduced the aff. ebenaui. This is the sound that the female was making when the male was trying to mate with her. I have heard this sound every time I have introduced them. I think it's just the female playing hard to get ;)
Please excuse the clattering...
I picked up a pair of Ebenavia inunguis from Hamm on saturday and thought I would share a couple of photos. I haven't taken many photos of them, so they aren't great but I wanted to share them:)
This is a really different species for me and I hope that I will have some success with them...
I took a couple of photos when I returned from Hamm yesterday and there were a couple that I just wanted to share :)
U. henkeli female (please excuse the dehydration - I don't think they got much of a misting while I was away in Germany)
Uroplatus spp. - aff. ebenaui?
U. fimbriatus...
After a long time of wanting to keep this species, it finally worked its way towards the top of my list, and I was lucky enough to come home from Hamm with 1.1 CB (F1) C. elok.
The female is much more timid, but the male was quite active during the day yesterday, and they were both feeding...
Just thought I would share a few new photos as we all seem to like photos on here
Male henkeli enjoying the new vivarium and shedding his skin :)
U. aff. ebenaui that hatched in the past few days:
While everyone else is at it I thought I would see what sex people think my sikorae are as I am not too familiar with the different patterns that males and females exhibit.
Sikorae 1 (I think this one is male?)
Sikorae 2:
U.henkeli female:
U.phantasticus:
U.phantasticus (very camera-shy when I took the photo):

here are some new photos of one of the recent aff.ebenaui hatchlings, now a couple of months on and doing well.
I haven't seen any aff.ebenaui with colour quite like him. In these photos he's just coming up for a shed, so they don't do him justice, but he is very green usually.
also, I'm...

I was wondering if anyone has or knows of any interesting articles/publications on hypercalcaemia in reptiles, or if anyone has any experiences of hypercalcaemia they can share?
I'm not asking because any of my animals have hypercalcaemia, just because of my interest in biochemistry and geckos...
Just got a load of plant cuttings from someone, and some of the plants I'm not familiar with, so wanted to ask if they were safe or not.
Devil's ivy?
a different type of devils ivy?
got some more to ask about later on as well.
Not sure where this should belong, or if there have been threads like this before (I'm sure there has)..
As the title says - I was wondering what got you into keeping geckos/reptiles. A lot of people have very interesting stories to tell :D
A couple of days ago I saw a couple of fungi shoots in one of the felinus vivariums, and I just had a look and they've grown at an alarming rate, just since earlier today, and I wanted to know if I should remove them or if they are fine to stay in there.
