sikorae enclosures

i am just about complete with my custom enclosuires for my pair and would like any imput from anyone experienced w/ uroplats. i have (2) 20 gal sterelites on end and have mounted them to framework with doors. i plan on having a semi-natural enclosure and will put in some live plants, potted so i can use them when i shower them. i was planning on cutting a respectable size whole in the sides covered with screen and place a UV bulb between the two so the plants can receive their required UV. i plan on using an ecoearth substrate and have some corkbark to mount to the walls. my question is what else i should put in the enclosure? would a leafier environ be better or one with more bare branches?

i will hopefully have it mostly complete this weekend and will post pics.. but i definitely will post some when they are complerely done.

I've seen those for chondro, nice!

i suggest very lichen covered branches, deep bark woods like common oak or such. not sure what's in your area. old felled walnut works great too! i also suggest a mix of diameters just to get the right fit for your U.s. 1" to 3" diameter works good for these as it's basically where they are found in the wild.

place them 90 degrees to about 60 but not horizontal, not logs, not "ghost" or taxidery drift wood. Branches!!!

also, for plants, use more grasses, not pathos. . . if you want more natural looking that is. creeping begonia work great and if you can get some epiphytical ferns *hint* those work great for the cracks and such in the wood! add some walnut or oak leaves that have been washed, bagged and such to your soil and poof! instant madagascar!!! i'll someday get to posting a photo but email if you want one.

I've found lilac branches to have very nice lichen and my sikorae loved them. Also burr oak branches work well.

thanks guys for reviving an unanswered ancient post. :lol: i am constantly on the lookout for ways to make their enclosure better and its stuff like this that will help me.

yeah tons but i can't get them up in here as of yet. will soon. brings me to another
thought though...does anyone know how close in nature sikorae are found to water? i've got a cool peice of wood and a drilled tank just sitting there. it's our standard size of 30"L x 24"H x 20"D. it's drilled in the bottom with three holes, two for the water feature and one for a vent or fog...? is it too small for sikorae mike?

From what I have seen the sikore are mid level geckos they tend to avoid the ground. I am not sure on how close they are to water but I would think that they can not be too far.

How many are you looking to put in the tank? It should be fine for a pair as long as you have lots of branches in it.
