Hey Nathan ~

Your Texas Geckophile Gathering 2006 has been wonderful -- friendly geckophiles, good food, comfortable accommodations, and top-notch speakers!! You thought of everything. (Some folks are even braving the Texas heat for field herping today and tomorrow.)

I really hope that this Geckophile Gathering becomes an annual event.

Hey Elizabeth,
I agree 100% It was great. I had a wonderful time meeting everybody and listening to the speeches. Hope to see everybody back next year. Those who didn't attend missed out on a great time and maybe after seeing some pics of it they will be motivated to come next time. Chris

I've talked to everyone and we've decided not to post any pics. If you want to know what goes on, you have to come next year :) just kidding. I really didn't take any pics, but it was awesome. All the food you could eat, free drinks, great speakers, herping, everyone that didn't come really missed out.

Nathan, Thank you!!!!! This was one of the best reptile events i have EVER been to.Just tell me when The Geckophile Gathering #2 is i will be there, and may more to come.

Im better,I can actually see straight now,but I am bummed out about the whole thing.I shouldve known I was pushing my luck.2 major trips in one year, something had to go wrong.I was going there with a cough and cold, but the Widow bite stopped me in my tracks.I never felt like that before, even under the influence of hallucinogens.

I can not say enough about how informative and fun the whole experiance was! We MUST do it again next year. I for one was blown away by the topics at hand and the amazing photos. I had a blast all weekend. Thank you to all the speakers! And to you Nathan! I look forward to the next trip.

What a great event! I knew I was going to have fun, but didn't expect to be blown away by all the great people and speakers. I had an awesome time in Texas and can't wait for my next trip out there. I really enjoyed looking for herps and other wildlife in the Chihuahuan Desert after the Gathering as well!

Thanks for putting such a great weekend together Nathan!

I had an absolute blast and will continue to have the symposium for years to come. It definitely took a lot of effort to organize, but it was well worth it. I expected a larger crowd, but it is hard to tell with a stand alone symposium in the middle of the country. I want to thank all of you who attended. I also want to thank Rep-Cal and the IRCF for their sponsorship. I will give a detailed report, with photos, when I'm caught up with the collection. Great people, great lectures, great food and plenty of Texas beer! What a weekend!!! BTW, you guys will be happy to know that we raised a nice chunk of money for the International Reptile Conservation Foundation. Great job.

I will update the symposium website with photos and new information in a week or two. The new address is www.geckophilegathering.org . Stay tuned.

Kyle and Aaron, I had an amazing time in Val Verde with you guys. Two female brevis. NICE!!!

More to come...

Don't worry about the photos. I took plenty. Unfortunately, I can't share most of them  . Drinky, drinky...

Dinner/Auction. I see a lot of red faces in the crowd. Yes, there was plenty of booze. I think it was beneficial for the auction :D

I thought some folks might like to see some pics of feild herping in west Texas. It was a bit too warm for alot of the herps to come out.

On or way to the spot we saw some very nice landscapes and alot of this one kind of deer.

We only spotted one snake in the same condition.
HPIM1187.jpg

Night fall brought out alot spiders, and moths. Like Nathan said we found 2 female Coleonyx.brevis. Which to us was very good on such a warm night, about 85-87 at 12:00 pm. The moon was almost full and the skies were clear.

The next morning the way back was a very nice long ride, but had a great view.

And here we have the effects of the desret, notice the same red faces.

Nathan-
First of all thank you for the pictures. Im glad to hear that the gathering ended up benefiting the IRCF a fair amount. That is great!!
What kind of snake is that...besides a DOR...
Those Coleonyx are very neat, wish we could have seen some...maybe next year!
Thanks again for everything!
