while in NY, i had a female klemmeri escape the exo terra. I dont know how, I thought it was gecko proof. She has been out for days. What tips can people give me, I need this gecko, she is a favorite of mine.

Just hunt like crazy, tear the house apart (just be carefull not to squish the gecko in the process).

I lost a leo for 4 months and he lived, actually bigger than his sibling.

The method i learned for catching phelsumas is...

Turn all the lights off in the room that its in.And get a spot light. And point it to the wall. And have it be the ONLY light on.And it should go and bask in it.Leave for acouple hours. And then go back. And hopefully she will be under their. This method has never worked for me.But ive only tried it once. But seems logical. And look behind posters or anything on the walls.
Hope you find her man.

Look behind the bookshelf. Thats where my grandis, house geckos, anoles and other wall climbing lizards that i have kept always go. I mean always lol but yes posters and anything else that backs up to a wall.

So far I think Jeff's advice is the best. That spot light trick usually does it. I wouldn't sweat it too bad. Mine are always getting out, but I always recover them. I don't even panic anymore when I realize one is out. I just go about my business and they always turn up.

If a couple of weeks go buy and she still isn't found, send me a PM and I'll see what I can do about getting you another female. So far you've had really bad luck with this species and I'd like to see that change.

Good luck!

Keep me posted.

BTW - You don't have any cats do you? That could be a problem...

is it possible that she was eaten by my male? she is about half an inch smaller then he is, but thats still a huge meal for him. I tore apart their cage again, and no sign. I still havent seen her yet in my herp room. its been a week. Im getting worried.

Hello Peter,

i had succes catching phelsumas by using a selfmade trap out of a plastic bottle.

I described it here:
http://www.petrosaurus.de/Falle.html

It´s in german, but you can hopefully see what i mean by the images.

I filled this trap with a little bit of fruit mash and some small crickets. After that, it was placed upright on a higher place in the near of the other vivariums. I catched in that way some P. klemmeri and P. lineata dorsivittata in one or two days. Because of the weir-shaped design the gecko will not get out, when you take the "bottle".

Good luck!!!

That sucks Peter. I'm sure she'll turn up. I've had many geckos escape including baby crested geckos. They escaped in my bedroom and I tore it apart everyday for about 2 weeks and they never turned up. I went in my room 2 weeks later and their it was right beside my computer.

When ever something escapes I look hard once I notice their gone, if I don't find anything I stop looking and let them find me.

Hopefully the gecko can't get outside, that happened this year with my mangrove monitor, some how I manged to spot and catch him outside.

Good luck!

I´ll agree with Kevin. Escaped geckos never turn up, when you are searching them. This was how i got the idea to use the bottle-trap for catching my escaped Phelsumas.

Normaly this trap is filled with a peace of ripe banana or a bouillon cube with beer and will be laid (not upright like for catching geckos) to a warm and dark place to catch escaped crickets :)

I hope your trap is working and you´ll get the escapee.
