Hey guys, im having a problem with my adult pair of oedura marmorata. Whenever i introduce them, no matter the situation, the female chases the male around and bites him on the tail. Ive watched her do it for hours at a time. Their is not a big size difference at all, i really just dont understand why she would be doing that. I would understand if it was the male, but im definatley puzzled on this one. THanks in advance for the help.

Hi John

Pretty common with Marmorata females - I know of a couple of females that are that fiesty that they have actually killed the male.

My female was like that - but after cooling the male was like majorily sexually excited so to speak - from 3 months ago to today he constantly chases her - biting, tail pulling, slammin against the glass, jumping from branch to branch - you hear screeching & the odd thump now and then also - its quite funny to watch actually.

If you are cooling I would cool them seperately & then introduce them after the cooling & hopefully the role will be reversed. Quite honestly I find the mating game with Oedura species as really being a major form of rape & bashing.

Cheers

Hi John,

I had the "same" problem years ago with an obtrusive male O monilis. He also chase the females through their cage and bit them in their tails. The ladies comment that attitude with their typical noise and it`s sound like a rape. I decided to seperate him from the females, because that happend in the end of the breeding season. I guess the females were just fed up. In the next season I don`t have any problems.

cheers,
Michael
