I am brand new to the realm of Assie herps. These are my new animals and a pretty good start to Assie herping, I think. So what does everyone else think. In total I have 1.1 D. steindachneri, 1.3 D. stenodactylus and 2.1 D. tesselatus.

Please any comments on their enclosure is much appreciated. I have added a margarine container to the enclosure after the picture was taken. i know these enclosures are large but are they to big.

That`s a really good beginning in australian geckos. Let us know how it is going on.

Hi Ryan, really nice specimen you have there.
Yes your enclosure seems really big for so small geckos. Diplodactylus species thrive in small enclosure (I keep mine individually in something like 36x25cm). Just keep an eye on how they will successfully catch their prey in such a big enclosure. Some species as D.tesselatus (and on a less extend D.stenodactylus) are not so good hunter.

Not necessary. Have you seen any water bowls scattered about their natural habitat? I dont use them at all for all my geckos or dragons. An occasional spray and a good supply of juicy insects is all they require. Take the plunge throw out your water bowls!

Bob - Unfortunately I haven`t been to Australia, but I guess there are no water dishes in their habitat
But in captivity I offer all of my animals a water dish, because they should have a chance to quench anytime they want :!:

cheers,
Michael

Definately necessary if you are not willing to spray daily. Whilst there are no water bowls in the wild, the geckos get to choose where they go each day so will seek out dew drops, condensation on spiders webs etc.. I have seen more Diplos die of dehydration that anything else. All geckos get a water bowl whether they need it or not. You can "Take the plunge" but I consider that neglectful.

Just some updated pics of my renovated Diplo enclosures. The margarine container has moist sphagnum moss in it. All three of my enclosures are similar, the only differences are different size rocks and different size cork bark peices, with the exception of the enclosure for my lone male D. tesselatus(it's much smaller). Also I observed my D. stenos moving their tale extremely rapidly, similar to a rattlesnake, what does this behavior mean.
