Ok everyone, my male and female gecko are both a year and a half old, both over 35g, and after winter cooling i am ready to put them together. I have tried once or twice but my male chaces the female and bites her on the neck, this maybe is normal for breeding, i didnt expect it to be dainty but the female really struggles to get away from the male. Does anyone have any pointers?

I would let them go at it. As long as you provide plenty of space to hide for both the gackos, and you dont keep them together for extremely prolonged periods (so the female isnt over harassed) they should be ok. Just make shure he isnt ripping into her badly, if she drops her tail then there is a problem, my male sometimes leaves little whitish marks but nothing more. Sounds like you are doing everyhting right and you have a very eager male cresty, you sholdnt have any problems :) Good luck.

This happened with my geckos the first time we put them together. It was scary to watch. I found that I could've done a few things differently to make it easier for them. My first mistake was putting the male in the females cage. Females are prone to be more accepting and docile when introduced to the male's environment. Secondly, the female needs to be well fed prior to mating or they will be more focused on eating and reject the male. We also bought a partition for the male's cage (the kind you can find for fish tanks) and kept them separated for a few hours to let her settle down first. Those few changes made a world of difference and we will be having babies in about a month or so. Good luck!

thanks for the help, all has been going well, and they have been together a few times ;). how long before the female looks gravid and lays, i know that the 1st set of eggs are more likely to be infertile, but just wondering how long before she lays from conception?

In my experience the gestation ( mating to laying) period is between 28 and 35 days. I was told this by a crestie breeder and my female has consistently laid between these, the average being 31 days.
Hope this helps and good luck to you!
