too old?

hi, i bought an adult female in february at a show, and in march or april i bought a younger male, maybe about 30 grams. i have seen them copulating several times since ive had them. i read in an earlier post that males have been proven at 23-24 grams. i have never had any eggs at all, not even infertile ones from her. i am starting to think that she may be too old to breed, are there any definite ways to tell if a female is too old?

highly unlikely. Considering some of the first cresteds in the pet trade were in the 90s, I think you are fine. Also, last I heard some of the original WCs in the early 90s were still producing, and I highly doubt you got your hands on some of the originals based on how many are being produced each year.

right i would agree with that, so what do you think the problem could be? the guy i bought her from had her paired with an older male and was producing offspring

This is my 4th season breeding cresteds, and I am still amazed and shocked by things. I had a female produce around 11 clutches last season, all fertile and all hatched, this season, she has produced 4 clutches, many just containing 1 egg, many infertile. I have no idea why either, so they never seem to stop amazing me.

a 30 gram male is young, but Id say old enough to breed to a female. It could be nutritional (not getting what she needs), not enough food, temps, or the photoperiod. I am not sure, sorry.

i once wrote an email to f.w. henkel, because of problems with my cresteds, and he told me, that cresteds may have the possibility to accumulate the sperm and id doesn't sound weird to me that they might be able to regulate the time of insamination by themselfes....

so maybe she does not wont to get pregnant by any reason...maybe she finds the male unattractive

ever since ive gotten her she has never eaten that much compared to my other cresteds. they all get fed calcium dusted crickets and repashy diet. i have a trio in a separate tank next to them and havent had any problems with them laying eggs so that might rule out temps and photoperiod. and i dont know of anyone who would find the male unattractive, hes a bright red dalmation with black and red spots all over and during the day he gets completely white except for a few of his black spot....very nice. he is a little spastic though.
