masobe questions

Are they actually as hard to care for as I've been told? These guys are awesome looking and I would love to get a pair. But the people I have talked to about them say they are one of the hardest geckos to keep and breed. Is there any truth to that? Where is a good place to get info on them and is anyone really breeding/selling them in the US? Any thing you guys can tell me would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Hi!
I think the main problem with masobe was always the same. Crappy, half dead, dehydrated and stressed imports.
F1 and F2 CB animals are something completely different. They are a real joy to work with, but they are still not for the beginner without any gecko keeping and breeding experience.
You definitely must know what you are doing with them. They will not forgive as many mistakes as some other species do, but I still find them easier to keep and breed than some of the Uroplatus species.
Their "impossible to keep alive" reputation will slowly be forgotten once a decent CB population is established. I just hope they won't be importing masobe in such numbers as in the past anymore, because it's completely pointless, if most of them just died.

You can search some older masobe posts in this forum. I've posted quite a lot of masobe photos in the past along with how I keep them.

Matjaz,
You have some really nice animals. I'm not what I'd call a "beginner" but I'm not close to "advanced". I breed Tokays and Cresteds. I have some O. castelnuai and S. williamsi I'm hoping to get breeding the first of the year. I'll definitely go threw and look at your posts. I was thinking the same thing about the WC vs. CB. Do you know about how much the CB go for here in the US? I dont think I'd have trouble keeping them as long as I could get a good pair of CB. What are the babys like to keep alive?
