Hey!
I got a pair of Harleys(male/female) and was wondering do they really NEED an egg laying area or will they lay their eggs on the humid jungle earth? I check for eggs every morning like most sites say to do... If not is pure Long Fibered Sphagnum moss a good egg laying substrate?
Thanks alot guys!

its not necessary to have a nesting box, but it makes your life a lot easier. i find that for the most part all my geckos(except the leos) lay the eggs in the nest box if they are fertile, and if they aren't they usually lay them on top the substrate. with my leos, they laid the first clutch in the box and since then every clutch has been in a different spot, but they always pile all the sand on top. as far as the nesting medium, i think just about anything will work just as long as there aren't any pesticides or chemicals in it and keep it moist so they will lay in it. i use vermiculate? i think thats what its called, some stuff i got from lllreptile when i ordered my incubator

Hey!
Thanks alot for your reply! Well the eggs should be fertile I guess I'll just have to keep my eye out for the eggs I would like to start raising them since there are not many in my area and I would supply my local pet stores with them... Thanks alot for the help and if anyone else has any advice its welcome! As another side question instead of a nesting box could I just put a corner of Long Fibered Sphagnum moss? Would it do the trick of just leave my terrarium the way it is and look for eggs everymorning?
Thanks again!

pet stores kill you in price, i tried it one time because i was desperate for space, but i ended up letting go of 6 geckos for only $25(not cresteds though). a corner of the tank would be fine, you don't really even have to look every day, just keep an eye on the female, you'll see her plump up and then all of a sudden she'll get thin again

Lol!
She has been pretty plumped lately and not as active as when I bought her so must be this is a good sign... Right?
Thanks!

I think I'll just keep the junle earth nice and moist and watch for her to slim down... Theres quite thick of medium on the botom of the enclosure... What do you think? Or do I absolutely need a sphag corner?

Alright Thanks I'll try just that for now... The Forest earth is pretty coarse so she shouldn't have any probs with digging... Where I bought her she was half burryed in the exact same substrate!

no prob, mine love digging too, especially right under the water dish, i guess cause i miss the dish when i pour water in so underneath and around it is usually soaked
