is there a place where you can buy a leopard gecko for relatively cheep that will live a normal life span like petco petsmart or anything like that besides a breeder? it dosent have to be any special morph or anything it just needs to live a wile so i can show my mom that i can keep something alive(i have had MANY pets mainly reptiles/amphibians that i find in the wild and can keep for like 1-18mths she thinks that is short but i dont think so...)so if you can reply to this as soon as possible thank you

Also how many leos can a tank roughly 90cm long 40cm tall and 45 wide hold...... i also have a smaller tank for one (that all i can afford right now) about 50cm long 30cm tall and 27cm wide thank you very much!

Yeah most pet stores do sell leopard geckos. As long as they arent sick then they should live a normal life span. They can live 10-15 years.

The larger of your tanks can hold 2 possibly 3 leopard geckos and the smaller just 1.

i have one more question what humidity should the cage be on avarge? also is it true that you shuldnt use sand for young leos if not what is somthing cheap to use like newspaper??

I have been keeping Leos for a while now and I don't really worry about the overall tank humidity
Leos like relatively low humidity except when they are shedding
I just keep a dish of water in their tank for them to drink from
What you need to provide in the way of extra humidity is a moist hide-a container (margarine-cool whip) with a hole in the side cut out for the gecko to get in and out

You will also want to have a dry hide or two-depending upon the size of your tank
Driftwood is good for them to rub against to loosen shed and it looks nice and you can use plastic and silk plants for decoration too

You can use paper towels for the medium to moisten for very young babies
Just moisten the paper towels in the bottom of the hide with water and check them when you feed and re-moisten if they are dry
Replace soiled ones
Also use dry paper towels for your substrate-you can switch to tile or slate later if you like
I don't use any kind of particle substrate for any of my Leos of any age but to answer your question-I would not use sand for babies

A UTH (under the tank heat mat) is the best heating device for your Leo -it should cover 1/4 to 1/3 the area underneath the tank it should be hooked to a dimmer/thermostat - they now sell them that way

Leos don't require any type of lighting other than ambient lighting from a window or a light in the room
You can use a low watt red bulb for night viewing (a slightly higher wattage bulb can be used if you house is on the cool side in the winter for extra heat) and you will need a digital thermometer with a probe on the end or a temp gun to accurately measure the temp on the bottom of the tank-both on the cool end and the hot spot over the uth

You will need to buy meal worms and small crickets for food for your young Leo and the bugs need to be gut loaded a few days before feeding them to your Leo
You can buy ready made gut load or use many hings such as baby cereal-fish flakes-ground up dry cat or dog food
You can buy water crystals for keeping your insects hydrated or just give them dark greens or sweet potatoes
Adults can eat meal worms-crickets-super worms -roaches and other bugs

The bugs that you feed will need to be dusted with plain calcium and calcium with D 3-a plain calcium most of the feedings and the one with D3 with a vitamin /mineral supplement once per week
I use cuttle bones for plain calcium and rep-cal for the one with D3 and Herptivite as my vit/mineral supplement

The most important thing with a young baby is to let them settle into their new home and don't even pick them up for the first couple of weeks that you have them
You will be perceived as a potential predator and stress them out
There are many posts about how to get your Leo used to being handled but most Leos really do not like being held for extended periods of time and would rather hang out in their tanks

A bowl of fresh water should be in the tank 24/7 and I leave calcium dusted meal worms in a dish 24/7 for young babies so that they can eat when they choose to

Oh and don't forget to make sure that you have a secure screen lid on the tank especially if you have any plants that come close to the top of the tank
Leos can climb really well-especially babies
