Males and Females

Hello.
Recently I've read some specialists' artcles and got troubled. the point is that some state that tokay males and females should NOT be placed in one tank due to their agressiveness(except for mating season), whyle others said that it's pretty ok for M and F to coexist peacefully. I'm about to buy a year old female to my male Tokay and eager to know about other people experience on that matter.

OK heres whats up. Yes its perfectly ok for males and females to get along. I have never separated my pair and have never had one problem with them. Heres the kicker. . . I went threw 2 other females before I found a compatible female. I'm not saying that is how it will be for everyone or every animal. But my male is overly aggressive and did not take to any females till this one. . . kinda found is "perfect mate" lol. Its better to keep your pair together and not separate them in my opinion. Unless your breeding a male to many females in different tanks then just keep them together. Just keep an eye on them when you first introduce them into the cage together to make sure they are getting along and both eating. If one (most likely the female) is looking skinny separate them and let her get some weight back on then try again. Yes they are aggressive but normally not normally males to females. . .males to males and some times females to females but not each other.

Tokay pairs do bond very strongly. You can not exchange a femlae without the male calling and searching for many nighst for his lost mate, even if a nice replacement female is in his tank.
Also not any male will bond to any female. Sometimes they nedd a choice to find THE mate.
But no male tokay will ever attack any tokay female. A female tokay may anyhow chase another female-but thats dependent on individual temperment.

I have had females fight when I have introduced another female in the same tank. I have never had a male fight with a female. I agree with Blake once they bond you should never seperated them unless health issues or something else comes up where you have to. Sometimes it takes a while before they will bond. They dont always bond right away.

tokay geckos are just like other animals. my male and female ganged up and attacked another female. they took sections of her tail off. both the male and current fmeale did this. all 3 where together prior to this, with 6 other geckos. they were placed into the cage at the same time. i seperated them and haven't had any problems.
