New Baby Gecko

Hi ,
I recently purchassed a baby gecko(SHTCT). I bought it on Sunday. The thing is,.. it hasn't ate ( I have tried to feed it brown crickets size 3) since I brought it home. When i went to look in on it earlier today it went into a defensive stance and then struck me. It's only 3 months old or so it's roughly 2.5 inches long and very thin. There doesn't seem to be much activity from it. Should I give more time to settle in? When I purchassed my other gecko he was a lot older and settled in after 2 days. He didn't eat for the first 3 days, but was really social. Advice would be appreciated.

He is just settling in. They do the defensive pose and sometimes will attack you. Also, I know this isn't your fault, but that seems WAY to thin. I have read that it is not a good idea to buy babies because when they fast(when they settle in), they have no reserved fat to live on, and they can quickly perish. Again, this is not your fault. When he does start eating, give him a waxworm or two. That will get a little fat on him.

some geckos take longer than other to adjust to a new home.

if he doesnt seem to want to eat crickets, get a small amount of mealworms

and try him on them. Some geckos are VERY picky eaters.

does it seem dehydrated at all? if the skin is sunken in on the back.. the head and other

parts he may be dehydrated. Try soaking him in some warm water for about 10-20

minutes once or twice a day for a few days. If his condition does not improve after tryin

these things, you may want to consider a vet. Have you taken the gecko to the vet

since you baught it from the petstore? Sometimes they done take the best care of

these animals and you should always quarantine new geckos for at least 3 months.

If you have any more questions or could post a picture of the gecko i might can help better.

Rob,

When I purchase geckos, I generally try to give them 2-3 weeks to settle in. In those weeks, I try not to disturb them and at the same time, provide food so when they are ready to eat, they will. When you say "very thin," can we see a picture?

Hope this helps,
