levis eggs

Hello everyone, just had a levis female lay a clutch of eggs and was just looking for some quick info. They are her first clutch of her life, and they are a little deflated in their appearance. They have that ring of veins on the top of them and the small start of an embryo which is positive, but they are very soft, fragile, and very rubbery/leathery in their texture. They are a little deflated and soft generally. I will put them in the incubator just to see if they will harden out a little over time, but generally are these eggs no good? Thanks

Oli, you'd be amazed at how resilient levis eggs can be. It sounds to me like maybe the female didn't have quite high enough calcium levels. I get eggs like that on occasion towards the end of the season. But they can certainly hatch out healthy babies.

ok, that's good to hear. How could I raise calcium levels for this female? I am constantly dusting her food with minerall and that absolute calcium stuff, and I feed her pink rats/mice on occasion. Do you have good results with using straight calcium carbonate? I have this, but have read that it is not as 'readily available' for the geckos to use in this form so I only use it to dust feeder insects maybe once a month in conjunction with a multi-vitamin dust like minerall or nekton rep, but then again these supplements contain calcium carbonate as well....thanks again Ethan

Hey Oli, for what its worth, I had a milii lay a clutch last year. one egg looked normal and the other was chalky white and deflated. It never plumped up but it did hatch out a healthy baby 2 months later.

Oli, it sounds like you're giving her lots of calcium. Perhaps she was just a little too young/small to be bred yet? If she's still growing and trying to put on bone mass, AND trying to produce eggs all at once, that's a heavy drain. Or, maybe it was just because it was her first batch. In any case, you'll know pretty quickly if the eggs are going to be ok or not. Keep giving her lots of calcium and see what happens with the next clutch. If it happens again, then you really need to start thinking about why.

Ok, thankyou guys. I'll just be patient and let you know how she is doing after clutch numbero dose in a month or so. She's a big levis for sure. I'll post a pic of her up to show her size soon. I believe the eggs are fertile despite their softness. Thanks for the advice again.

Oli, glad to hear the eggs are doing well. Keep us updated. I'm especially curious to know how her second clutch looks when it's laid.
