can't say i have seen this. my female crested gecko started calling back to the male. she just laid a nice clutch 3 days ago. i have always caught them in the act but have never seen much of the courtship. the male is almost always fallowing the female and then latches on.

tonight was different after calling back she began to shake her tail. not in the "I'm pissed leave me alone!" way but i would say more of a butt shaking. she then jumped over to the branch the male was one. she repeatedly shock her butt and called. he the tried to mount but she refused. after a bit of chasing they mated like normal. is the part of the mating ritual? i have never seen this before. I have heard the calling but have always found them either mating or when the male is chasing.

Yeah, thats the courtship behavior. Sometimes the male will also lick the female, usually on the limbs first. Its really cool to see if you get the chance to watch.

The first pair I had I introduced on a house plant outside the cages. The male chased the female all over it. It was so funny. I have enough cresteds now that I get to see this behavior at least once a week. Most of my other gecko species do some courtship displays too. I just think its really cool.

re:

Cool, never noticed this and I kept creted for 2 years, I am particularly intrigued by the calls and sounds of the rhacos! It would be really fantistic to film these courtship behaviours and sounds!

Something I've noticed with my ladies: If you put the lady flat on your hand and gently pat her body for a minute, usually they will start shaking their heads and tails and making that calling noise. Sometimes they'll also do it if you nudge their shoulder lightly.

All of my girls will do that and it is way funny.

My males do all sorts of crazy stuff, but I have not put them in w/ my girls this season so there getting really horny. Once in a while I will find all the guys on there tanks wall just looking at the female tanks. LOL Boys will be boys.

If you think the sound cresteds make is cool you should hear a leachie. I have one male who is only a 35 gram baby but he can wake me from a deep sleep when I'm upstairs in my room w/ the door closed and he is downstairs in his tank! First time he did this I came running down the stairs thinking he was hurt or something and no hes just on his screen wanting to come out of his tank. Little brat!
