Incubation of Diplodactylus eggs??

Hey,

I am trying to prepare for all the eggs I should be getting and was wondering if you guys could help me with the incubation.

My incubator varies from 81-83 degrees. Hopefully later in the year I'll be able to afford a more precise incubator, but until them this is what I have.

Will these temps be ok for producing a good ratio of sexes? I was talking with Clark (clarksgeckos here on the forum) and he was telling me how like with the galeatus at like 81 he got mostly females but then at 83 almost all males (though this could be backwards?)

What ratio of water to medium do you guys use, as I know they can't be kept to wet.

Any tips/help would be very much appreciated :)

Thanks Derek

I use water : perlite 1:1 by weight. About 100% hatch.
Temperatures 26-26,5°C, ratio of sexes is 1:4 (male:female)
Look to find a thermometer which is working right, there are big differences.

I have not found galeatus to be TSD. I have hatched about 20 this past year at 76F and have gotten a 50/50 male/female split.

So a 1.1 ratio of perlite to water at about 81 degrees would be good for all the eggs? Or do some species need a little drier/wetter/hotter?

Thanks everyone for the feedback :)

Hi Derek,

Yes, that should do. Pretty much treat them the same as leo eggs humidity-wise. Temps are also similar to leos but I like to keep the diplos a bit cooler, 81-83 would be the max. I find the lower temps (80-ish) yield bigger stronger hatchlings. Hatch times are not that much longer.

John
