Stupid People Should Not Pro-create

So, while surfing on craigslist the other day i see where someone has rescued a male leopard gecko. Just a normal gecko. No special morph.. just a regular lil boy - they said it was a male and couldnt be housed with their other male so they didnt have room for him any longer - he had been through alot and needed special care... I had no idea....

some parent thought it would be okay to buy their 5 year old a leopard gecko.. scratch that TWO leopard geckos... :-x this might be fine and dandy if mom and dad tend to him and supervise the handling of the small lil creature..now I know some of you just breed your animals and dont become "emotionally attached to them"... but I am not a breeder I have 15 geckos now and handle every one of them every day. I give them special attention daily and have become very attached to every one of them.. I even worry when they dont eat as many crickets today as they did yesterday... that's why I am posting this today.. I'm so furious.. Im livid.. these DAMN FOOLS let the 5 year old CHEW OFF BOTH OF THEIR TAILS... and never gave them a moist warm hide or calcium... they let the shed stay on his lil feet until they fell off... HIS FEET people.. they sat back and witnessed them losing their tails and feet due to the mis handling from the child and lack of proper habitat... I sit here squalling right now as I type this.. I want to stand out side of every petstore that sales geckos and slap the *bleep* out of every foolish parent falling pray to the whining and moaning of a spoiled rotten child...and buys any reptile but especially one so docile so sweet so loving as a poor little leopard.... Just because you can procreate does not mean you are a Mother or a Father.. with today being mothers day and fathers day approaching... I feel the need to remind any foolish person of that fact.......some people just have no BLEEPING clue of how to give it a proper home and if you cant care for an animal you surely shouldnt be allowed to procreate!....
Too bad no one that really needs to read that will read it because only responsible owners take the time to read up on how to care for them properly thus leading me to venting to you fine people instead of smacking some sense into idiotic BAD PARENTS!

I've attached some photos of my new "bubble butt twins" and should the precious lil babes ever get over the stress of their lives and provide me with little baby geckos I guess they'll just be "het for stump tails and no toes".... I'll love them just the same (and yes I know that's not hereditary, I was just kidding)....

If they make it a week it's worth it, because they will have had a week of true love and good care... that's more than they've apparently ever had....

As a fellow rescue-er of pets, I understand how frustrating it can be. I just get sick when I think of all the animals that are not saved from bad owners. Im glad that you were able to save these 2.
Did the 5 year old really chew off their tails? Am I just reading that wrong? Thats sick.

Oh my god thats awful! I'm welling up :( I can't believe they left a 5 year old to look after two leos, I mean, I wouldn't even trust a 5 year old to keep a stuffed animal intact. Bless you for taking care of them, good luck!

yes she did.. they did not provide calcium for them.. since being in their mini mansion at my house they have went through an entire dish of calcium (in 2 days) and I'm not skimpy with their calcium dishes I give them an endless supply... they havent eaten much that I've seen but I've put 8 total crickets in their house in two days.. they are all gone but I've not seen them eat so I dont know if one or both are eating.. but someone is *LOL* yes she chewed their tails off.. in fact we're not sure she didnt chew off some of the feet... there is so much I would say to that family if I ever met them - One of which is YOU PEOPLE ARE SICK AND NEED TO SEEK COUNSELLING... I do NOT wish ill will upon anyone I never do - because I believe what you wish on others comes back on you by no less than three - Harm None Do as You will is my motto! But I do hope one day the parents of that child say to them selves "this is happening to me because I was a bad parent"... in other words - I hope Karma Kicks their BLEEEEEPS!!!
but.. for now.. hermie and Hermine are doing well... Hermes is the male named after the Greek God with the wings on his feet.. and Hermine from the precious girl from Harry Potter.. She's strong and silent and fierce when required.. that's my new strong survivors!

I am heavily involved with a reptile rescue group here in NC - the owners do shows for childresn (4-h, churches, schools, boy and girl scouts) after they've had plenty of time to acclimate to their new SAFE lives, we're going to take them to shows and teach children what happens when they DO NOT care for their reptile friends. So their tortured lil lives are not in vein!

If you have myspace, feel free to check me out over there I log photos almost daily of my critters! (lifeshighways@gmail.com)

Thanks everyone for your well wishes!

Holy crap, that is one sick-in-the-head kid. Why in the world would you do that to a gecko? So cruel and %#&$ed up...*sigh

Anyway, I'm so glad they have a kind and decent caregiver now. Good work! :)

I knew kids today were spoiled, but Holy F@*king Sh*t. These people don't deserve to be called parents. True parents care about their kids, teach them about being a caring human being, teach them the consequences of their actions. Today's parents are in some cases just overgrown kids and have no sense themselves of how to do things in a caring manor, everything to them is disposable....Maybe Karma will give the little cannibal a raging case of salmonella and considering how much attention the parents seem to pay to him/her it will be extreme and the variety that is maybe resistant to antibiotics, but hey they can always get\have another one right...sorry for my venting and I'm not wishing ill on the little darling really.
I know that not all parents and kids are like this, and for that I'm grateful.

Jeffsphoenix: I'm sure both Hermie and Hermine are getting the very best care they have ever received, and will thrive in your care. I'm sure they are thanking you daily for taking them away from the cannibal.

Man what a sick little kid. When I was little, whenever I saw kids on the playground step on ants i'd cry.... I could never do that to any living animal.

It would be hilarious if the kid got a bad ase of salmonella and pinworms and had a raging medical bill. Teach those teabags of parents...

Hi There,

When you think off cruelty to animals, you mostly think off pysical
abuse. But cruelty due to ignorance and stupidity probably happens even more frequently...
It makes me sick! :paddle::paddle:
I'm very attached to my leo's, and cryed my eyes out when one off them lost their tail! (A locus was sitting on it's tail, and when he could'nt get him off, he just dropped it!)
If my cousin comes over (he is 8 years old), he is only allowed to handle my oldest and most docile male. And even then I always supervise him, although he is very gentle with him. But I believe a child doesn't understand yet how delicate these little, wonderfull, creatures are. The parents of that 5 year old boy, should never be allowed to keep animals anymore!! And they also should be forced to take some lessons in: "how to take care off animals".
Greetings,

Cindy

i know the parents have been awful but i cant help thinking maybe the shops don't always use there right to refuse a sale, we have all seen when someone goes in trying to pronounce latin that their trying and are likely to look up information, maybe it could be a rule when buying an animal you should have to tell the seller the correct info instead of them giving a 2 minute briefing that the customer ignores anyway whilst stareing at the monitor in the display tank! i've been in a shop with a 12ft python who's staff didn't know how to sex a leo, and i had to buy a moorish from a different shop after seeing it still in a tank with a monitor 3 months after first noticing him, hes got a bite scar but its fading now, i hate the way money motivates, if you cant care and support it don't have it at home or in a shop.
These parents are obviously very selfish uncaring people and i think it should be the shops duty to spot these, anyway, sorry for a rant, i just feel very strongly about this, nice work julia at least some of us are trying!

Hi all, thank you guys so much for your feedback - I'm glad I'm not the only person outraged by the poor parenting skills, the lack of responsibility from the seller, and the obviously sad child involved.

BTW - this is Jeff's Phoenix - LOL I am a girl... My name is actually Julia!

Hermie and Hermine are both doing very well, in fact they come out of hiding quite often. Right now I have the poor dears in a 10 gallon together and they have little room to roust about but their 40 gallon home will be delivered this week they'll have a lil Condo in the sky too as they will go on the top rack where they'll get the best of the best of care! Here rubbings (where Mr Hermie has been a bit frisky are getting better and they snuggle quite often) if perhaps they end up bringing us some lil wee babes I'll be sure to share...

Once again if you have myspace you can add me by using lifeshighways@gmail.com you can keep up with all my babies as I do weekly measuring and photo shoots. I'm not a photographer but I do get a good one now and again...

Thanks again to everyone, it sure makes me feel better to know that I am not the only one outraged by stupidity!

awww, that is so sad!! As a parent of three boys, I would NEVER allow such a thing to happen!! We have one little juvenile gecko (not sure yet if he is male or female) My 8 year old bought it for his birthday. He knew he wanted one 3 months before his birthday, so he spent that time researching leopard geckos, and watching videos on them. We already had a 10 gallon, but we went halvsies on all the equip (cricket keeper, gutload, calcium, water dish, three hides, undertank heater, lamp, bulb, carpet, thermometers, lol, think i remembered everything!) He is eight, so the gecko is ONLY handled under supervision, sitting on the ground with him. He helps me dust the crickets and get them into the tank, and he cleans the cricket keeper and feeds them. I've taught him the proper temps for warm and cool side. He does the basics, getting fresh water and such, but I do the majority of the work, and I knew this would be the case before we bought him. He knows enough that anyone who wants to take a look gets a very good lecture on how to take care of a gecko, not to touch the tail, etc.. I can not believe some parents would be so irresponsible as to allow their child to CHEW on a lizard??? What if they had parasites after all that bad care??? Good for you for stepping up and taking them in!
