a couple of questions

i plan on getting some day geckos around september, so i got some info from the members on this forum (thanks guys). i then also bought a book on them; Day Geckos In Captivity by Leann and Greg Christenson. i have a few questions after gaining info from the book:

1. i plan on getting phelsuma laticuada, the book states it as good for beginners. do you agree?

2. i plan on using the exo-terra 18x18x18. is this a good cage for them? i know it should be taller then the footprint, do i need to get the 18x18x24?

3. is it ok if my background is coco fiber? and the bedding coco fiber as well?

4. i will have driftwood from manzanita, this doesnt have toxins right?

5. now, the book's authors fed mostly crickets and a little of fruit-based food. i plan on feeding mostly fruit-based commercial prepared food, and eventually try to wean them to eat from my hand, when i can feed freeze-dried crickets. live insects wont be exluded from the diet, but will be a treat. is this ok?

6. i will be adding UV light (author says not necissary, but i am yet to find anyone claiming it is detrimental). i will have a 15w lamp with 7% UVB output.

7. i will have an additional 40w light, but the closest bulb i can find for it is half 6700k and half 10,000k. this is a higher kelvin rating then the authors suggest. what is your take on using such light?

8. somebody showed me a thead (im not sure if the thread was on this site) where somebody made a humidifier blow air through a tube into the cage. since day geckos like to climb, i figure the best spot to have the humid mist come from is from the top and then sink to the bottom, much like rain. how does this idea sound to you?

sorry for so many questions, but its going to be my first day gecko and i want to be able to take care of it right.

you seem to have a pretty good idea of what you need but about the humidifier day geckos really don't need that much humidity I mist mine with a pump hand sprayer twice a day and I have yet to have any problems this keeps the humidity up enough throughout the day you don't want it too damp that could lead to problems like mold and or health problems from the tank not drying out enough

sorry, i should have been more specific. the humidifier will only be on at 5 minute intervals (it will be on a timer), for as many times a day as necissary to keep the humidity at 70%.
