No candy for me...

Well, I thought that I was going to get some nice hatchlings from my Normal het. albino x Chocolate albino parents, but it turns out that I probably have been scammed by the so-called breeder that sold me the male.

To make a long story short, three eggs have hatched now (still waiting for one) and none of the hatchlings are albino. I had two eggs that died shortly before they were supposed to hatch so I cut them and those two were also normals.

Either I'm getting laughed at by the God of Odds, or the male is simply NOT het for albino. Since the result so far is 5-0 to the normals I have a pretty good idea myself on which one of the above mentioned scenarios is the right one... That's what you get when you don't buy from well known breeders.

Nevertheless, the hatchlings are nice and hopefully I can find them some new homes.

Yeah, you got that right. I honestly don't like getting any hets from non-reputable breeders but sometimes a deal is just WAY too good to pass up. Like last night I got a Blazing Blizzard, Rainwater Patternless, and Mack Snow het for Albino from a guy I've done business with before, all for $60... That was $20 each!

Now honestly, even if the Mack doesn't turn out het for Albino or the Blazing Blizzard doesn't turn out to be carrying the Albino gene (his eyes are a little dark, although yes I do know not all albinos have light eyes) I'm still happy with that price because of the Rainwater Patternless... (I needed a patternless and rainwater gene in my collection)

But yeah I'd be a little disappointed if the het doesn't turn out so or the BB isn't actually one... but the price beat me into doing it... lol. I hope you didn't pay that much for him??? In that case hopefully you know where that dealer lives. :) J/K

Nah, he told me he was het for Tremper albino. Both my females are Tremper so it can't be because of that.

I wouldn't give up hope this soon of hatching a homo albino. Five eggs isn't much to base the outcome on. Each egg has a 50% chance, it's not 50% of the hatchlings. Sometimes you just get more of the het albinos hatching first, the homo albinos come later. I agree that would be nice to have confirmation early. Years ago when albinos were new, I went a whole breeding season hoping to hatch an albino, somewhat in the same shoes as you are in. There were only 2 albinos that hatched, one of the last clutches for the year. The earlier ones were 18 hets. So, going by me experience, there's still hope for yours.

Yeah, I know there's still hope, but statistically there should have been at least one albino by now. The GoO is cruel sometimes but I have a hunch that something else is going on here.

I have one more egg to hatch from that pair.

But still - the hatchlings are a bunch of cool critters!

like having kids. sometimes the odds mean you end up with 5 girls, even if you are properly producing the normal amount of sperm with equal( or near equal) x and y. it can and does happen. genetics can be like that.

however given the results so far i would no doubt be thinking the same as you. this is one reason i am not into all the morphs and colors in my animals. nor do i seek to produce them due to issues like this.

I'm with you and agree as far as you go with kids and all that, but the main issue isn't really wheter the hatchling is an albino or not. I love all my scaly friends!

The issue is that people pass off things as thing they are not. I didn't get ripped off or anything like that but it's just the principle. I know dealing with hets are a tricky thing, but this guy said that the Leopard in question was from his own breeding and I took that as a sign that he would know what the parents were.

I've heard lately that he's trying to sell heavy Leopards as "Gigants", and even though I'm not very in to all morphs I thought that the "Gigant" morph had to do with size and not weight. Correct me if I'm wrong.

That's one of the other reasons that I have my doubts.

If there are other things this breeder is claiming that have you suspicious than you are right to be concerned. Otherwise, don't lose hope. Last year I had a new breeder male who was sold to me as het for albino. I bred him with my albino female and got 5 live and one dead in the egg hatchlings, none of them albino. This was a reputable breeder so I emailed him to ask if he was sure. He was. At the end of the season I bred him to a young female also het for albino. Should be 25% chance of albino as opposed to 50% with the albino female. Wouldn't you know that 2 out of 3 of the hatchlings she produced were albino. I'm running a similar 2/3 with the same het pairing this year.

Sorry you're not getting what you want with the babes. Maybe this last one will be albino! But, anyway, yeah, those two you showed us in the thread are really pretty! ;-)

P.S. How are the banded eggs doing?

P.S.S. I ordered a super snow from vmsherp!!

Yah, I know! I swear I check out their site at least once a day and drool over all the pretty babes they have! Oh, if only I had unlimited funds, space, and time...;-)

Thanks for the love for my SS--I can't wait to meet her!

(Um, sorry for taking your thread off track a bit, K)!

OK. I'm glad to know I'm not the only one who's online everyday drooling over pretty Leos... I thought I was going crazy there for a minute...

lol... don't want to rub it in your face...but I bred a possible het RAPTOr (33%) to an 66%,
and ended up with 2 APTOrs, a RAPTOr, and some patties, albinos etc. In the first season!!

But I have had the same issue as you as well, it will balance out, give it time. If it turns out it's not het, let me know, maybe I can help you out!

Yeah... thanks...

You just destroyed the image of Canucks beeing a nice kind of people.

Not to mention that the GoO laughed some more today when my last 2/3 Mack Snow eggs hatched. Result: One normal and one Mack Snow. Still no sign of that Super. Just Edison, may he/she rest in peace.

Ah, well... back to the drawingboard.

I have had horrible luck with super snow/super snow albino... for what it's worth.
and my enigmas.
and geckonia chazalia.

p.s.
All 'Canucks' are nice...ish... lmao

I hear you...

But in my world it's not about the percentage - either it's het or it's not. 33, 50 or 66% is just before you breed it, afterwards it's 0 or 100%. So your animals were actually het for that morph, you just didn't know it. Get my point?

You'll get some extra cred for beeing from Ontario. I found it very nice when I was there.
