a request for photos (identifying species)

ok, so i have a request for the uroplatus community here. i would like to put together a guide to differentiating the species of Uroplatus within the trade to make it easier for people to determine what they've got.

i have plenty of shots of phantasticus. however, i would like shots of pretty much any other species. one of the primary purposes is for identification of species, so i would prefer photos that demonstrate the characteristics that are unique to a species. for example, a nice shot of the iris of fimbriatus, then henkeli, and it would be great if someone could get a good shot of giganteus. i would also be very appreciative if someone could get good shots of the buccal cavities in the different subspecies of sikorae. please, no shots of a barely-opened mouth showing nothing more than the floor of the mouth. i would like wide open mouths on these guys.

thanks ahead of time. i will be giving photo credits to anyone whose photos are used. i will likely make a post for this forum, as well as one for my website.

i am fairly picky as well, please send only clear pictures.

please email any relevant photos to me

I just changed my mind. The photos I have of my former animals do not cover the full spectrum of the species. So go ahead and post those pictures if you don't mind.

I would like to also say if anyone has so many pics that it would be a hassle to send them all to me, it might be more practical to post the pictures in this thread, or perhaps send me a link to where the photos are already uploaded.

Be sure to provide your full name so I can give you proper credit. Identifying the sex of the gecko (if known) would also be greatly appreciated.

Thanks to all who have responded so far.

not really sure if it would be the sort of thing you are looking for, but I have taken a few macro photos of my aff.ebenaui and their distinguishing characteristics. I also have a few nice macro photos of Guentheri. Let me know if they will be of interest :)

I've got some pictures online, but I don't know if they're of any use to you. Check the Uroplatus in my Webshots album Geckos pictures from reptiles photos on webshots
They're a bit old but they do show fimbriatus eye pattern, as well as henkeli. If they're what you're looking for, you're welcome to use them.

Thanks!

Ok, I will get them sorted when I get back from Hamm ;)

You might not get a response from many people like Grep or Mat.si because it is the hamm show tomorrow, and they have tables there. :)

skwerel, i would appreciate it if you could give me your first and last name so i know who to give photo credits to.

and everyone...i could REALLY use pictures of both U. sikorae sikorae and U. sikorae sameiti. of course, any of the rarer forms are needed as well. there are certain species which likely will not be addressed with any photographs (alluaudi, malahelo, malama, giganteus)

forgive me for being so detailed in the details i would like, but this is a reminder to PLEASE include the following information with any photographs you would like to submit.

your name (first AND last)
species/subspecies
sex

i can't do this without help from you guys!
thanks to all of those that have already submitted. i know you all must have more to give!

nice pics everyone. I'd love to help you but we've only got the usual species like henkeli and guentheri, and not the best camera :-(

I have pics of sikorae, henkeli, ebenui, phantasticus, pietshmanni, lineatus. We used to keep them a few years back. If interested let me know.

the only problem i am having right now, and i hate to be picky, is that very few people are submitting photos with the entire body in frame and in focus.

i am not expecting people to go out and take photos for me, but i would REALLY appreciate if people could get photos of the entire body in one shot and in focus.

Difficult person, aren`t you...?:lol::lol:
I`ll see what i can dig up or maybe take another few new pictures.
Besides sikorea, i can provide lineatus and pietschmanni pictures if you like.

i know you're joking, but i feel like sometimes i am. here i am, asking for something from the community, but being picky about what i want.

the thing is, i really have an idea in my head of how i want this to turn out, and at this time, when i dont currently have any geckos to photograph, i have to turn to the community. but i dont want it to be so much of a collection of uroplatus photos as i would like it to be enough pictures to properly convey the range of polymorphism within each species, as well as provide a good, full-body picture of each animal to demonstrate the idea. it would be good to be able to point to one picture and say "look at this, this, and this" to identify the species, rather than take several pictures of different animals and have to point out one or two features on each.
does that make sense?

and of course...i could still use more photos of lineatus and pietschmanni. heck, i could really use more photos of just about everything.

My name is erica perras (posted those phant pics). I can take some more pics to your specifications as soon as I get my camera back from the shop, and a friend has a beautiful lineatus since you mentioned needing them. I have his permission to come photograph any of his reptiles, however I would need to ask him if it is ok to send them to you. Ill get back to you as soon as I can.

Hey Mike,
ofcourse i was joking, but you got a point there.

As for everyone that gives Mike some pictures, those that have sikorea sikorea, could they get a picture of the underside of the tail for me? Sikorea have a white with black stripes or dots at that location and i would like to see if there is any difference between male and female.
