Mantis food for leos?

Manti

Your leopards "should" be able to eat just about anything that is size appropriate, and, that it is actually interested in eating. Remember, just because we are captive breeding these animals, doesn't mean that the NBI are not intact. Now, if you want to talk nutritionally you have to think what are you feeding your manti that is going to help the positive progressive health and growth of your leopards. Whether you are feeding your geckos pinky mice or the occaisional earthworm, and yes they do eat them (possible alternative diet?), it really comes down to the health of whatever your feeding your lizards. As long as they are healthy and you have leos that will eat them, then you should have a cheap alternative on your hands.

There's other things to consider as well such as the shell to meat ratio. You might also want to consider that mantis are quite aggressive eaters themselves and presumably even a small mantis could inflict at least some damage on a leo.

Hmm, I agree with Ethan on this one; Mantis are agressive, carnivorous insects, so they could be a risk for your leo's.
Normal locus would be better.

In the book; 'Lizards, windows to the evolution off diversity' I found a very illustrative picture, off a large mantis, eating a gecko...:)cry:)
So, I hope this confirms that they actually do form a potential risk.
Kind regards,

me (again:))

ok, i wont feed any to my leos. just thought i'd ask because i've been hearing people talk about feeding leos different feeders, i thought gutload fed crickets that were feed to the mantis's would make mantis's more nutritious for leos. but i wont feed any to my leos i promise, and i dont want any of my leos eaten by a mantis:(

Yeah, I must admit that I was totally shocked by that picture!!:yikes:
The Mantis in the picture, wasn't even consuming a relativelly tiny gecko, but a rather large one...
I'm feeding my egg laying females the larvae off the rose beetle, also known as dola's. They are very nutricious, but have powerfull jaws too!! I offer them to my leo's with a large feederpincet, and they absolutely like them!:D I think they could be a really good alternitive for your leo's. That is off course, if they are available in your area.

DUDE! On one of my other forums, I saw a couple pics of a BABY camel spider. Four inches long. When they are adults, they get up to 16 inches (with legs) across. Now here are the scary parts. They are actually more of scorpions, and they have a numbing venom (like how you never feel a leach bite you). Well, on my forum, a guy was in Iraq, and woke up one night with one EATING his leg. I mean like chewing on it! I am arachnophobic. Seriously! I could see one of these eating an eagle!

Here is the link. Read the whole thread.

Camel Spider from Iraq - Fly Tying

P.S.: My name is airedale on there too. Also, just to make things clear, fly tying is essentially tying feathers and fur to a fish hook to imitate a bug. Seriously, check out the realistics section. Also, I asked some people on there to tie me a leopard gecko fly (don't worry, I will never use it to go fishing). Here is the link to that.

Leopard Gecko - Fly Tying

Tell me how you like it. :)

I can't believe these rumors about camel spiders are still spreading.

do a google search on camel spider myths. Here is one to get you started.

The people who spread these rumors are the same ones with the 8 foot long ball pythons

most people are idiots when it comes to stuff like this. so one should not be shocked. i tend to let people hang them selves with the stupid shit they say.

camel spiders are harmless unless you start messing with it. even then the most you will get is a bite. no venom what so ever. no they don't chase down animals like camels either. they at most might eat small geckos and mammals. also there are very few large species. the largest i have seen had a leg span of around 5-6 inches. i have never seen one the size of a dinner plate, even mounted.

when it comes to animals doubt any and all extraordinary claims unless you can see these your self or read documented reports. most people who make such claims are not educated. your average grunt does not know a thing about arachnids. hell most people in general can not tell the difference between a lizard and a salamander.

It's not "stupidity" nor are the people idiots. As an adult, I know there's varying ages of people on the internet, especially forums. So... as an adult, I know better than to assume everyone is my age and has the common sense needed to differentiate between myths and possible realities.

Comments like this one just proves that one... you either have anger management issues. Or two, you're a child yourself and haven't learned to forgive errors of the younger/naive generation. And three, you feel as if you have to prove yourself by belittling others.

By the name calling and language, I'm assuming you're a teenager. Just know that language and belittling like this does not make you seem any more intelligent than the people you're purportating to belittle and call "idiots".
