I'm having a hell of a time getting both eggs to hatch, or even go full term. Most of the time only one of the eggs is fertile....... maybe next year will be better?

Trouble taking Oc eggs to term

Kevin ~

I'm sorry to hear this, because Ocs are usually pretty easy. So you are saying you have fertile eggs in which the embryos die before hatching?

I've "lost" two fertile eggs this season by not getting them into the incubator soon enough. Could see an outline of the jaws on the two dessicated embryos. However, in the past I've only lost one fertile egg to accidental squishing. That does not include the duds.

Sometimes the females are big and healthy and the males seemingly ready, but then no eggs. Guess at least one of my pairs is taking the 2008 season off.

If the nest box is too dry, do the Ocs not use it? What happens to the eggs?

Congratulations to everybody else here who has just posted news of Oc hatchlings
