Concerned

Hello all,

I've not been on here in a while but I wanted to ask a question. My gecko has been acting funny lately. It usually is very active and eats when I feed it in the morning and lately it hasn't been eating hardly any crickets at all. I cleaned out the water and sand this morning and put some crickets in and it has just been sitting in the same place in the sand since I left. I'm very concerned about my little thing.

Can anyone offer any advice? I'd greatly appreciate it.

I thought about that because it would describe why she hasn't been eating that much but I have noticed her poop in there still, meaning she has to be digesting something, right?

ok i found something in a really good leopard gecko book i have.

"a common scenario is that a gecko acquired earlier in the year, when your home had a warmer ambient temp, will suddenly stop feeding in the fall. This is caused by the background temp of most peoples' homes dropping with the change of seasons."

so basically...check to make sure there is at least one hide box that has a temp of 87-90 for proper digestion. this scenario could be possible since it is now october and likely to be getting colder.

if she is still pooping then i would say the chance of impaction is less but get her off the sand asap just in case there is some sand in her GI tract that may be slowing things down, we dont want it to get any worse. put her on paper towels, make sure her temps are correct (especially adequate belly heat), and make sure she has water and calcium. my other suggestion would be to have a fecal test done with a herp vet just to make sure she doesnt have a parasite. (i'm a vet tech so thats my natural response to a lot of problems...haha...but parasites are a definite problem and a check for them couldnt hurt)

maybe some of these other more experienced people can give some more suggestions but this was my 2 cents....good luck, hope she starts eating!

Ahh that makes sense! I've got her in some warm water now to see if that helps her. As soon as I can I'm going to get some paper towels in there. Thanks very much for the advice. I hope she gets well soon!
