Help with nest boxes

Hello everyone,

I need some of your breeding expertise! As I will be going overseas shortly for a few weeks I did everything you shouldn't do when you want your animals to breed:I didn't cool them, I didn't separate them etc. but... ...to no avail! A couple of weeks ago I discovered that my tryoni female (which has bred before) was gravid and a few days later my marmorata female (first season at breeding age) as well. I provided them both with lay boxes (margarine tub with hole in the top and wetted substrate) but all the eggs were placed outside them... By the time I found them they looked very dry. Is there anything I cant do to entice them to use the boxes??? Please help.

Thanks,
Bluemchen

Well done i should have tried your method with my Marmoratas as cooling them etc hasnt worked LOL I find it best to mix some spagnum moss in with the wet substrate as it seem to make it more appealing and keep misting to a minimum as even my Castelnaui has used a damp spot in the enclosure over the nest box. Make sure the nest box is blacked out as this makes them feel more secure.
