OK, I'm not terribly certain whether it's them or the Turner's, as the cages are next to each other, but I strongly suspect it's the sakalavas as they should have a pair of eggs to defend at the moment, while the Turner's is just a bachelor male.
On any case, one of my cats (Peaches,) has managed to get a rise out of them, which I find amusing, as it seems to freak her out a little. Peaches still examines as much of the cage as she can get to, but after a couple of croaks(?) she'll take off and do the spooked cat routine (bounce off the walls at full speed, pause for a bit until the next noise/flashing light/whatever sets her off and eventually relax and either go to back to the terrarium for another round or take a nap.) She has done that at least once nightly, for the last two days. (I guess if they keep it for too long it might get tiresome, but for now ... :roll
It is interesting in that neither species has been particularly vocal for me before. (But I guess I'm their meal ticket, so there's no point in scaring ME away.)
As far as the actual call noise, it is reminiscent of my Tokay's warm-up croak, but not as harsh, if that makes any sense. In fact, I thought it was a "light warning" from the Tokay at first, until I realized it was coming from the wrong part of the room, and that my cats where nowhere near the Tokay. (So I guess I learned something new from my animals today.)
