Oh where oh where can my gecko be....

When I got home last night I had discovered that I had left the sliding glass door open about 1/2inch. On inspection of my two females in this particular tank I discovered Dotty was missing. The space that the tanks are in is 30x30 room with an attached 30x10 storage room w/furnace. I have turned everything upsidedown, looked under and in all furniture to no avail. I sat up in bed all night with the flashlight just waiting for her to show herself...nope. I am not worried about the cold, furnance throws lots of heat onto the floor and the room temps are 70 or so. There are spiders and some run a way crickets in the storage room so food isn't a problem for awhile. My heart is just broke and I am sick to my stomach about this, not to mention that her tank mate Brittney is beyond herself, pacing and very nervous. (this proves they do have emotional feelings towards eachother no matter what the experts say) Any ideas on capture? I read another thread about crickets in a jar put into a live mouse trap, will try that today. Any help would be appreciated.

It happens to the best of us I've left my exo terra door open before lucky they didn't escape but its easy to get districted. look for the warmest spots in the house and the darkest, maybe set a heating pad some food out in a box. Hope you find the little guy.

Set up a small heat lamp on the floor of your room. Place a hide underneath the lamp and start cooling the room very slowly by opening a window or similar. Chances are one morning you will wake up and the geckos will be under the hide.

good luck,
Rob

No sign of Dotty as of yet. We have turned everything upside down. I will be empting the storage room tonight looking for the little s*%t. I was hoping that she would be in one of my slippers this morning. I will let you know when she shows up. Thank you all so much for you best wishes and advise.

If you have a refridgerator or freezer near by there is a good chance it is under one of them. Try putting down a heat mat with an area to hide on it. Good Luck!

Dotty is back! I was laying on the floor last night bellyside down doing a puzzle when my little darling walked right up to me. I am so happy I am beyond words :yahoo:. She drank, had some crickets and went to sleep right away. Her tank mate Brittnany was overwhelmed, pushed up against her, gave a lick or two and laid right up tight to her. This morning they were still cuddled...tell me they don't have compassion towards one another and I will argue till the sun goes down. Thanks to all my gecko friends for your help and suggestions.

Haha, extraordinary! what luck eh? Congrats to you. I wouldve sugested to look in a closet. I once left my sliding door open too, it is very easy to just walk away for a few minutes and then forget to close it. He ended up in my brothers room the same afternoon, it was easy to tell with the poop trail leading to him room, haahahaha. I walked in the room and heard something shuffle in the closet and there he was. Thank god too cuz it was my enigma male :D Anyway take care, and i cross my fingers that it wont happen again!

I left mine open again.... luckily I checked on them before I went to sleep and they didn't escape, I think they tried though cause my Normal Female was out on a rock near the edge, usually she stays hid. Guess we need to post a sign saying Remember to close door!

thats good to hear, i wont argue with you on the compasion toward each other, 2 of the 4 female leos i have are insperable!(Venus and Ivory) where one goes the other follows, and there always laying next to each other, if i take one out ot the tank for any amount of time and put it back in the tank, the one that was left in the tank is excited when her "sister" is back with her. its sad that soon they will not have each other anymore, Venus is egg bound, and has been for quit some time(thanks to the people who owned her before!!). i took her to the vet, they said shes been egg bound for to long so the anitbiotic they were going to give her(i forget the name of) would have more than likly killed her then helped her, and if they were to take her into surgery and have the eggs removed they sad she would have a 20% or less chance of making it out alive:( . it makes me extremly sad because i took her out of a horrible environment, only to lose her in my hands. i feel ivory will die of a broken heart when venus is gone:(

Oh Leogirl how sad for you. Perhaps you can get another so she isn't alone for too long.
Keep up posted and again I am so sorry for your hurt.

thank you. i hope i can get another one so ivory isnt lonely, but i dk if she'd feel the same way to a different leo the way she feels for venus. for now ivory is happy with her venus, and so am i. i honestly dont want to replace her, i feel it will be very hard when that day comes to replace her, shes the perfect little leo, i dont think i'll find another like her:( it would be miracle if she one day just wasnt egg bound, but i dont think miracle like that happen:(

I don't think you should replace her, but you may need to provide Ivory with another companion. I get pretty annoyed at people that say its just an animal you can get another one. The last person got equally upset, when I asked how they'd feel if someone said that to them after their child/human family member passed. I don't have kids, I have FUR kids, and in many ways they are so much better then the two legged variety, imo.
I'm sorry that you will soon lose Venus, but know that you did everything you could for her, and that both of your lives were made richer for having spent whatever time together you have left.
