White Lined Hides

Hey everyone,

I bought a couple skunks a few months back, and this forum has made me rethink the arrangement of their terrarium. Whereas all their needs are being met, I think there's some renovations and additions that could potentially make them that much happier and I just would like some input on my ideas.

1. I'm thinking of adding some modified birdhouses as hides. I would remove the roofs of the houses and make the entry hole a bit larger. I would also place some moist substrate in all the houses and hang them from some horizontally placed bamboo. I was wondering if anybody had ever done anything like this before and also if there is any stain/finish/paint that I could use or is it better to leave it just natural with maybe just a natural hardened wax finished?

2. Placing two or three money trees in with them. I have two concerns; a) are they safe? (I found them on sale at a place selling live plants for vivs, but I know that my skunks get water from licking the leaves, and I'm not sure whether this plant is toxic at all.) and b) will the tight braids of some trees cause crickets to find a hiding spot and never come out, essentially starving my geckos.

Any input would be awesome, thanks!

hey lil guys, I haven't hung any yet, but I bought one and put it slightly off the substrate held in place by some bamboo. I wanted to see if they'll utilize it before I went through all the trouble of hanging them. I'll keep you updated.

I find that simple is best with these guys. Mine all love paper towel tubes to hide in, which are easy and cheap to replace. Cork bark is good for a natural look, I'm not sure about the bird house things, but I would stay away from chemicals and stains if possible and stay as natural as you possibly can.

Don't know much about the plant thing, as I am a black thumb. (mine have fake fines hanging for cover)
I think there are maybe some threads out there on reptile-safe plants for a planted viv though, if you search around.
Good luck!
