That's awesome I couldn't imagine feeding all those geckos! I'm a breeding enthusiast (thats sounds strange reading it out loud) but new to reptiles, I've bred about 20 different types of fish. Do you breed your own crickets as well? I just started trying to do that this week since crickets are pricey and my geckos are lil piggies. I just got 3 leopard geckos few weeks back and am planning on breeding them when they get older so I'll be asking you lots of questions in future. Heres one for now however, is there anyway to sex the geckos at a very young age? I'm guessing mine are all 2-3 months old based on their size. I remember males have bumbs under their legs and none of mine do so not sure if I have all females or if there too young to tell yet. Thanks. -Sam

Hi Sam, very nice to meet you. Its quite a chore feeding that many I assure you but totally worth it, I only use small amounts of crickets so I just buy them they are 1 cent a peice from the place I get them so I just purchase them, I like to use dubias and super worms, and mealies, and I breed all of them so I use them alot I have found the super worms to be very good food for leos they grow rapidly and only need to eat 4 or 5 every 3 days and will not eat till then, so this is the best staple food I beleive. of course my other geckos only eat the crickets and roches but 5,000 cickets a month does just fine. with only three leos you should definatley try super worms it will save you in the long run once you get a colony going. If you need help starting a colony let me know Or need help with any thing else I'd be very glad to help you Thanks for your post and its truely great to meet you let me know if I can help thanks Sam,

Adam

Wow one cent a cricket that would be heaven, 10 cents here at all the pet stores, 12 cents for the large crickets and half die within the first couple days. I think mine are still too small for the worms, is there any worms that juveniles can eat? I want to give them varied diet but the small crickets seem to be only things small enough for them, I even got desperate and bought dried fruit flies which I figured they wouldn't touch and they didn't. But luckily for me my cichlids eat everything so that didn't go to waste. Also the pet store said to give them 4 small crickets each a day, but I thought it wasn't much so bumped it up to 6 each per day. Is this good amount or can i go higher?

Thanks for the warm welcome

Sam, I feed all my juvies tiny meal worms and baby supers from my colonies the you can buy small size mealies from the pet stores. If you want to know where I get my crickets pm me I will give you the web sight they have free shipping I think its a little more when you only buy 100 or 200 but only like 3 to 5 cents, and they usually ship well if you order 200 I think its like $16.95 shipped so even if some die its still a way better deal than the pet stores I remember those days of going to the pet store and spending $50 and only getting 500. Wow, you should definatly order them you are spending more to feed 3 geckos than I spend for 200+, you can get any size too. If you buy the regular mealies from the pet stores and google meal worm colony it will tell you how too make a colony and in a coulpe months you'll have mealies of all sizes for each age of gecko I always have mealies availible in a dish of calcium for all my leo's. The one thing if you get crickets over the internet you get more but you set them up in 18 gallon tubs with egg flats and food and water, I use total bites and lay mash, with kelp help for dogs and tropical fish flakes this keeps them alive and especially from smashing each other thats why they usually die off so quick they freeze, or tromple each other if they are left in a small container. But I definately recomend buying bulk crickets from the web you'll love it and save so much money. I am happy to help you with any thing you may need I want to make sure that every one enjoys our hobby and when the pet stores drain everyones pockets its a real downer. Any way just let me know if you need help starting some colonies and send me a pm if you want the sight for crix, i'm not sure I can say it over the forums. Thanks Sam take care

Yea as of two days ago I put the small crickets into a huge container so they have more space than need and switched to some gel stuff for there water so they'd stop drowning, and give them gut load food and also cichlid flakes, so there doing better recently than they were at first when I kept them in a 1 gallon container. Yeah I'm gonna definately search for meal worms and super worms to start colonies.
