Lighting for my Viv

Okay this might sound bizarre lol! :blushing:

I got my Sunglow Thursday night, he seems to be settling well (hasn't eaten yet but im not worried) My question is, is it possible for my "over head lamp" to cause him any long term problems. Its a 60watt bulb that I use to simulate sunlight and to boost the ambient temperature (along with my UTH) Whenever its on during the day and hes out his eyes stay firmly shut lol! He wont even open them to help find his hide! I just turned off his lamp for the evening (my bedroom light is still on) and the second it was off he came plodding out. I know that they are nocturnal but I really dont see that being the problem. Should I just leave the lamp as it is? Reduce the watt or get rid altogether? His health is obviously the main priority (sorry if I sound like an overprotective, paranoid mum ) lol!

Okay - so im getting annoying, sorry lol! But I have another question :D lol!

Soo Im thinking about getting a red light bulb, but can someone tell me about the blue bulbs I know you can get? Whats the difference? (if any at all)

Thanks....again :)

Why do you feel the need to have a red or blue light bulb? If you're just looking for a way to increase ambient air temps, use a ceramic heat emitter (che). It'll last 100 times longer than any bulb, and it doesn't put off any light.

I think that the blue lights are supposed to simulate moonlight at night. The geckos supposedly cannot see the red light. The red lights are a bit brighter to us and they allow us to be able to view the geckos at night without disturbing them. I am new to this, so this is just my take on it. In my tank I have a 100 watt day bulb and at night I have a 40 watt night red bulb. They seem to work pretty well in addition to my heat pad for keeping my tank at about 92º floor temp at the hot end and about 75-80º at the cool end. I have a 20 gallon long. Hope this helps.

I forgot to mention that I just received my leopard gecko today. About 1 1/2 hours ago. It is a sunglow also. It is my first leopard gecko. They sure are good looking geckos.

Thanks for the input guys - I'll probably buy a red bulb and a ceramic heat emmiter, check them both out :)

Ahh congrats! :D Ive only ever had an ordinary looking Hypo before, as much as I loved him, I was totally blown away when I got my new guy :D Very gorgeous geckos :)
