A 55 gallon tank is a very nice size for a pair and could easily handle a 1.2 group. I've kept 1.2 groupings in 29 gallon tanks without any issues, and just had a 1.2 group in a 50 gallon size enclosure just a month ago.

Generally, folks will recommend anywhere from 10 to 15 gallons (some say even more) per individual adult crested gecko.

sounds good

I have a pair in a 55 gallon, also, and they do really great together. I have actually thought about throwing another female in there, but the two do so well together that I don't want to complicate things. I am sure that one male and two females in a 55 would be fine, though. I have found that as far as enclosures go with adult Crested geckos, bigger is better. It is good to have a lot of foliage and places for them to hide, as well as things to climb on. I wish you luck!

Have you thought about standing it on its side so that it is four feet tall and making a screen front for the tank?

i thought about it, but then i wouldn't be able to have lighting, and i want to use the strip light that came with the tank.

Yeah, that's a good point.

Are you planning on doing live plants then?

As a side note... I keep up to 1.2 or 0.3 adults in 24x18x24 sized exo terra enclosures so I think you could easily do a trio in a 55 gallon tank. (That size of exo I use works out to be approximately 45 gallons.)

A 55 gallon tank that is four feet long gives lots of room for them to move left to right. And, given the odd dimesions of a 55 gallon tank, it's actually a decent height for the cresteds as well. (I always hated 55 gallon tanks when I was in the fish hobby. Too tall and not enough depth.)
