shedding leo

My leopard gecko is shedding for the first time since I've gotten him. He was very pale yesterday, almost white. This morning when i woke up i saw some scraps of skin in the cage and he is under his humid hide.

Its not the best hide right now, just a dome rock with some moist napkins under it. Im going to make a better one later, but do you think this will be good enough?

My question is, about how long does it take them to completley shed? I've read if they have trouble with the skin around their eyes and toes you can rub it off with a moist q-tip, but I dont want to bother him until hes had adequate time to do the job himself.

Also, about how often do they shed?

Thank you

I think the hide should be good enough. It can take them over night to shed or just a few hours. They shed about 1-2 times a month and when there adults they shed less often.

The scrapes could be from him clawing at himself, or when he rubs up against things to loosen the skin. If you have anything that can scratch your finger tip in the tank, I'd suggest getting it out or taking a nail file to it. They need the rough stuff to rub against, but if it's too rough it can cut them.

Give him til the end of the day. If it's not coming off then do it yourself.

Geckos can shed however much they want if they're growing. Mine will shed once every other week for a month or two, then shed five times in a month, next thing I know she's a whole inch longer. She's only nine months right now.

Try to keep the humidity around 50-60 to help it properly shed. This can be achieved by giving the terrarium a couple times. After he sheds lower the humidity to what it was regularly. My humidity is 40-55 regularly. My humid hide is a log located in the middle/ warm side of the tank with tissues under it. I spray the tissues a couple times a day.
