I got two geckos on saturday morning and one recently lost his tail. I tried to handle them tonight but i cant get a hold of them. they bolt as soon as i get close to them. how should I approach handling next time?

I wouldn't hold them if you just bought them. They are going to be very stressed from being put into a new environment. Try not to hold them for atleast 5 days.

After that just keep introducing yourself to them little by little.

Try to handle them as little as possible for the first month I would say

Though I have a hard time following my own advice :p

The way they act towards me now, makes me think that i will never be able to handle them. because like as soon as my hand is with in inches of them they bolt and its nearly impossible to catch them, and i feel that if i pursue them they might hurt themselves, or it would make our relationship worse.

i gave my crested a 5day break in period to his new enviroment. After the 5 days, i just started putting my hand in the tank every 4-5hours but i wouldnt pursue him. Eventually, it took my little guy about a week to even get near my hand. Just b patient and he/she will come around. My guy jumps on my hand now every time i put it into his tank.

Also another thing you could do is hand feed him each time you handle him. Making each experience positive and building a relationship. Ever since the first time i fed him crickets, he goes quite willingly now

gecko-mi-gecko, i was given the same advice by someone on youtube, and the female is already starting come around. I was able to touch her and almost pick her up. and she didnt run away. so im hoping if i continue this with both of them they will be fine.

thanx guys for all your advice.
