Alrighty.. been a while since ive been here.. anyways im getting back into the leaf tails and now have 2 male juvie cb henkeli atm and have a supposed juvie female on hold that im getting next month.. anyways i was looking into doing planted tanks for them when theyre adults. so i have a 65 and 75 gallon tank that are empty at the moment. so qs are will the 65 be ok for one male? and as for plants with those with planted tanks for henkelis what kind of plants do they seem to like to chill on and what not or is it more personal prefrence on what you yourself want in the tank?

and then another q.. ive been seeing and hearing more that baby/juvie henkelis and others can be sexed by color/pattern.. my q is how? what do you look for thats gender specific? if anyone can help tell/show me with pics about that that would be awesome ^_^

i think thats it for now
Thanks

That size tank would be good for one....even a pair. i would not put two male henks together though, they do not seem to get along as well as some others in the genus.

They can be sexed pretty acurately by pattern...I do not have any photos too post though. It would be pretty hard to explain without having photos to help out.

As far as plants go, all the henks I have had liked to rest on the glass or smooth branches 1 1/2 to 2 inches in diameter. Sansiveria might be able to hold there weight. I like using Ficus, it looks nice and provides cover ( but the geckos cannot rest on it).

Some things to get you goin.

Yeah i was planning on seperating them once i got the cages ready since theyre starting to drop and show that they are boys... though they werent sexed when i got them about 4 months ago..

eventually im hopeing to pair them with females when i feel im ready to try and breed.. but that wont be for at least a year or so.

I have a juvi male henkeli and I have him setup in a 68gal and it is plenty big enough. Scott is correct in saying they will utilize branches and the glass more than plants. I have ficus, pothos and a few other plants and cork hollows and have never seen him on any of them but it looks nice. :) Chris

The adults will hang out on the 'snake' plants if they are sturdy enough. Henkels do prefer large vertical 'trunks' though. A diameter of about twice the width of the animal should be a good measure. The geckos rest vertically on the trunks of large trees in the wild. They also like the sides of the tanks too.

Like everyone else has said, Henkeli will spend the bulk of their time on glass or corkbark. With that in mind, lots of corkbark flat & hollows, and some sturdy branches should make up the bulk of the cage furniture. Any plants you put in are going to act primarily as humidity aids and maybe to provide a bit more cover for the uroplatus when they're hanging out on a branch. With that in mind some pothos, sanseveria, dracaena and a couple of nice hardy ferns would be my choices for a planted Henkeli viv. Good luck! Hopefully we'll be reading about you hatching out some babies before too long.

yeah i do notice they hang on the glass alot i was just wondering if there was a plant they liked.. as i know the satanics like to hang out in plants and what not or at least mine did when i had them..

hopefully i can get this thing going soon ive always wanted to do a live planted tank and had no idea where to really start. though i did remember one of the customers where i work has a planted terrarium for pacman frogs so i asked him for some tips which he gladly helped me with.. so its off to find everything i need and get to working on them

thanks much
