Hi.
I'm owner of 2 P.m. grandis, one male 4 years old, and the other , i think female 7 months old.
The question is...
My male grandis, occasionall turn darker green, olive-green.
I've heard that this is sign of stress, but i can't see any reasone for stress at that point.
Maybe sounds in lower frequency, like tunder sounds or explosion on tv.
Is there something else that could be the reason for darker skin?:scratchhead:

My grandis is about a year old now and I have only seen him turn that dark olive color when he is stressed, which has only been a few times.

When I first moved him to his permanent tank, he was that color for a little while. Also, when I take him out to clean his tank, he gets that color.

Have you had that 4 year old male his whole life, or did you just get him? If you just got him, he may need some time to settle in.

I got him 4 months ago.
He escape not along time, and i suppose it was stressfull for him wen i was catching him, but skin was bright green. I only notice his wavering with his front leg.(That was odd, and funny ;))
That adventure tels me that he is resistant to stress, or that his interaction with me is not so stressfull for him.
Like I ve wrote before, to me, the only reason for stress is when there are deep sounds in room. I notice this twice.
The old owner of the lizard told me, he notice dark skin at morning, before the lights turn on.
I wander is there some other reason his skin gets darker, or thats it?

If he is darker before the lights go on, he may just be cold and sluggish due to lower temps. I am sure that loud sounds such as thunder may cause some nervousness. What are the temps in the tank before the lights go on? Is he spending most of his time at the lower end of the tank when this happens?

The temp at night is around 70F, 20c.

Is he spending most of his time at the lower end of the tank when this happens?
The firs time I notice dark skin, grandis was at side screan behind snake plant.
The second time, he was on highest bamboo under fluo light, not moving around 30 min. That was during tunders.
He is newer at the lower end of tank, except wen he hunts.
Dimensions of tank are 28x14x24, LxWxH.

Do you have an image you can share of him and his terrarium? Maybe a pic of him while he is dark. My Phelsumas all go from dark to really bright throughout the day. It just sometimes depends on their body temps.

Maybe the one that you think is female is really male...with day geckos, it is a death wish to put two males in the same cage. They are less compatable then pitbulls. Also, the hand waving gesture is a territorial thing. You might want to separate the two. I think that you have two males on your hand. If this is the case, they will kill eachother eventually. I had two adult female standings loose in my room, there was not enough space in the room for the two of them. The subordinate female was always forced out of the room.

I would never put a male and a 7 month old female in same cage, not to mention 2 males.
It's my fault for not mentioning that dey are in separate cages.
I'm waiting for female(if she is one) to mature, and then they will be in one cage.

@Adrn - don't have pic while he is olive green.
But will put some pics of terrarium. :)

There are photos of terrarium in my album "Ter. for Che".
Che is hiding behind the snake plant. I was just cleaning the front screan. He is not lost his bright green.
Last time he got darker, he was on the bamboo in front of that place.

Grga,

It looks as if it may just be normal darkening when he gets nervous. By the way, very nice setup. I did notice no backing on the tank. If he ends up getting excessive darkness all the time, you could try to place some sort of backing on the rear of the terrarium that may make him feel a bit more secure and not so surrounded. Your "high tropical" enclosure appears to give him plenty of hides, though.
