Finally some actual pics of SoCo and his home

So, I got a daytime lamp and took pics of SoCo and his home. Let me know what you think.

I know they're a little blurry, but hes quick when he's eating. He really is that white color though. He has just a slight hint of yellow to him.

I'm assuming he's a normal?

Definitely a Mack Snow. Looks like my Keenan, who is a Mack Snow. I posted two pics for you of him for a comparison.
Soco is very pretty, and he has a very nice setup. :biggrin:How old is he? His pattern will change alot too! So you will have to post pics when he gets older ;)

Thank you all for your help!! Holly, the stone in front of the teracotta plant is full of calcium.

Noodles, Keenan is gorgeous, and thanks for the comparison. I definately agree with you guys that he is prob a Mack Snow.

As far as his age, I'm not entirely sure. He's definately very young. He looks a lot like the pic where Keenan is by himself. I would say no more than a month old. I bought him from a pet store that is owned and mostly run by a breeder, but the day that I decided to pick him up was the one day that no one who knew anything about the reptiles was working. lol. I'm hoping to catch the owner in there one of these days when I go in for crickets to get a more accurate number.

Thanks! I have been away from home for a week now so I know all my babes will be different when I get home. I am excited (and nervous since the hubby was taking care of them!) and can't wait to see them tomorrow (isn't it a sad day when you miss your leos as much as your husband!?! lol). Keenan was about 1-2 months old, I think, when the 1st pic was taken (I have older pics where the bands are nearly completely black too). I also got him from a store so idk his birthday or exact age. Most leos are around 3" when they hatch, and 3 grams. Keenan was slightly bigger than this when I got him (4g), but I think it's partly because he wasn't eating when at the store cuz he gained a ton of weight the first week I had him (nearly doubled in size!) I am interested to see where lil' Soco goes with his color, so you'll have to post more pics as he gets older! It's really cool how much some morphs change as they mature. Oh and I wanted to add that Soco is also an Aberrant, like Keenan is also a Jungle.
And thanks hyposhawn and holly!

Noodles - I so know what you mean about the doubling in size. I can't believe how much bigger SoCo has gotten in the week and a half since we got him!!! He's turning into a moose. lol.

I'll definately be posting more pics as he gets older. What does that mean that he is Abberant? I attempted to look it up, but didnt find much in relation to him.

Moose, lol, was one of Ron Tremper's, and the biggest leo with a recorded weight of 156 grams and just over 11 inches in length. Funny you would use that descriptive. :D
Abberant refers to the band pattern. Normal leos have straight bands across their bodies and tails. Aberrant leos have interruptions in these bands. And Jungles have irregular patterns on their bodies and have either diagonal bands or broken bands on their tails.
To me it looks as if Soco has a broken band towards his tial, and that would make him an Aberrant. So you can call him an Aberrant Mack Snow.
If you look at Keenan's bands, they are all over the place, and his tail is striped.

My aberrant, normal, or high yellow has a band. If it breaks it's a aberrant, if it dissapears it's a high yellow and if it stays it's a normal. I'm curious to see what it will do.

Lol. I had no idea. I've been calling him a moose for the last week. His appetite is starting to slow down a bit, though. We're down to 6 or 7 bugs a day as opposed to 15. I think hes getting ready to shed again, though, so it might hop back up after hes done.
I see what you mean about the pattern. His is changing so much already. I'm pretty sure that what I once thought was a bite on his tail is actually a part of his pattern. lol. Maybe some day he'll get calm enough to take decent pics like you get. I couldnt get him to sit on my wrist like that to save my life. We pulled him out the other day to clean his cage and noticed he had just a bit of shed still on his toes, and it took us like 25 min to get it off because we would get a bit, then he would move, and we'd have to start all over again. lol.
I am pretty sure that he is a he though. He's found his reflection in the glass and tries to fight with it everyonce in a while. Its hysterical.

As he gets older it will be easier to tell if he's a boy or not. For some reason most Mack Snows are boys anyway, so you're probably right. Easier tell-tail (hehe) sign is the hemipenal bulges will be easy to see from the side as he matures (looks like, eh, well a bulge, right under the base of the tail. Took me a while to tell on Keenan, but now he's definitely got the boy bulge, lol.
I had to remove some shed from Sprocket's toes yesterday. She still won't sit still for it (she thinks it's play time), but the more I do it, the easier it gets. Soco will calm down a lot before you know it. :)

Oh and it can be difficult for me to get good photos. Most the time my leos are climbing all over me and I have trouble getting them to stay still enough (except for Athena, she's so chill, she just sits there waiting for a rub). Neko is notorious for climbing up my arm to sit on my shoulder, and it's a pain in the you know what to get decent pics of her not on the move. ;)

beautiful tank, I like the way you used the terracotta pot, I also used the terracotta pots in my tank. Good idea taping down the paper towels, don't know why I didnt think of that myself lol! I am going to try to post some pics myself soon... Soco is beautiful.. he really is a baby! My Bubblegum is 5 inches and 15 grams now (weighed him today!) He is still eating about 15 - 20 crickets a day and still no shed... can't wait for the shed...

Noodles - ya, I've read all about how to sex them...I just dont think hes big enough to tell, yet. That is interesting that most Mack Snows are males...wonder why that is. hmm. I can't wait till he's big enough to get out and allow to play. Right now I can only imagine chasing him around the house. I can barely catch him in his cage, hes so fast. Have to wait till he gets older and slower and calmer. Do you always have to remove the shed from Sprockets toes?? I guess its something I'll have to be on the lookout for from here on out. I mean, dont get me wrong, I definately watched him while he was shedding, but he managed to hide the toes for a while.

Veronzi - I think I actually got the tera cotta pot idea from pics of your tank. lol. SoCo is CONSTANTLY sitting on top of it. As far as taping the paper towels down - I chased about crickets out from underneath the towels before I got irritated and bought some tape. Now I can let SoCo catch them on his own schedule as opposed to having a race to the edge of the towels. I know from one of your other posts that you were gone for a week, maybe Bubblegum shed while you were gone. It happens pretty fast. The only reason I knew it was happening was because it he was still in the middle of it during feeding time. It's funny - most people on here say they dont eat a few days before the shed, but SoCo wanted his crickets even with shed hanging off him!!! lol. Did I mention he's a pig??

Well, all...SoCo is quickly getting closer to the 5 inch mark I set for allowing myself to give him a naturalistic environment. I'm excited to say that I got the great stuff out today and started sculpting!! I'm not putting it directly into the tank - the pieces will be able to come out for cleaning and whatnot. So I cut cardboard pieces out and covered them with reynolds wrap and built an exact sized replica of SoCo's terrarium and created a few hides by blowing up balloons as well as some ledges with leaf covering. I'm going to be cementing it in the next few days, and I've got a few slate tabs to create a warm spot on the floor over his UTH. Otherwise I'll be using a clay/sand substrate. I'll be putting it all together in a few weeks. I'll post pics as soon as I have em!!

I also have to ask, how quick do they tend to grow?? At what age do they generally reach full size?? I feel as though if he keeps this up, I may have a giant on my hands. I mean, we've had him for about 3 weeks and he's more than doubled in size.
