I don't know if it is just me but I would like to have some other people opinions. I do know there is some debate on what geckos should live on sand, paper towels, tile ect... There has been a poll going for a long time about leopard gecko substrate. It has been basically the same thing for months and months and month. I am tired of seeing it pop up and all the drama that is caused because of it. My questions is should talk about leopard gecko substrate be allowed on GU. I personally don't think so it clutters a perfectly good forum and starts to much debate.

Those threads are always annoying. But at the same time it IS a discussion on geckos. And if we can't talk about geckos, what are we here for?

Just ignore it if you can't stand it. That's what I do, seems to just be a lot of stupidity and narrow mindedness. I'm over it. But at the same time, no sense in censoring portions of keeping the animals this site is dedicated to.

Tile is great, if your lizards are indigenous to your bathroom

Why are you complaining about a poll that brings up the arguement of substrate, when you have a phrase in your signature that downs a certain substate alot of hobbiests use.

If you look at enough posts in this section, you begin to see the pattern. I agree with Cliff, in the clutter it causes. I can understand where you are coming from, whkrazyk, but if you surf the leo threads, a lot of them are beginners who are just asking if their substrate and set up is okay even if a thread above it talks about the same thing. I really can't see us "banning" the talk of substrate, but it does get annoying. I just learned to ignore it.

Hmmm. Maybe we should just have a sticky or something that goes over the pros and cons of the different substrates used.

Again, you can't really ban it, but it does get annoying.

If someone could produce a fair and balanced sticky topic explaining the merits and pitfalls of each, I think that would be excellent. I'm on a few other boards (not for geckos) and it's nice to be able to just direct individuals towards the pinned topic when a contentious and frequently arisen subject emerges rather than go through the song and dance of pages of argument each time. The problem is finding someone who is willing to write something unibiased on the matter.

I could give it a whirl if the mods like and nobody else wants to do it. I'm one of the most objective people you'll ever meet.

My old high school banned the color pink. Because it's a gang color in Florida.

Point? Banning something that only few use negatively will hurt those who are using it innocently. Victimize those who actually use the information given.

While we're at it let's ban talk about feeders. There's MORE conflicts about that. Oh and ban tank sizes, lighting, and temperature discussions.

There's a point when it becomes contolling. People are going to talk. It's an right of speach. There's a sticky about it for a reason- To stop the clutter of new threads about it.

Simple answer to the substrate stickied thread question... Don't like it? Don't read it. And don't troll on it. The thread's not going anywhere and we're obviously not banning substrate talk on the forums. 'Nuff said.

i could really care less about what people use for a substrate. I use paper towel because it is easy, none more, none less. But im not gonna sit there and shove "impaction threats" and all this other jazz down peoples throats. To each their own. What they do is there business.
