Dusting crickets

I was wondering, what should i use to dust them and what product should i dust them with?

I cant seem to find a specific calcium + d3 supplement anywhere and was also wondering if just cgd and plain crickets would be good enough as the cgd is supposed to be all the esssential nutients.

I also found that they eat the CGD more readily if you dont feed them crickets on a regular basis...

If you go to a pet store or can find an exotic pet store, you should be able to find a powdered calcium supplement. My vet said to dust the crickets every time. He also recommended dusting with a powdered multi-vitamin/mineral formula twice a month.

My local pet shop doesnt have any supplement and also, the breeder doesnt have any and has never used any and claims that all his geckos are healthy. I was wondering what brand so i could get it over the internet as i cannot find any good ones online or any in shops...

you'll need a vitamin powder as well, if you're going to be feeding livefood.

Try Nutrobal - you can use it with the calcium powder, with an overall ratio of about 1:6 nutrobal:calcium. That method's worked fine for me for all our geckos.

When the person in the shop said it's never had any supplement and it's fine, it may be because he hasn't fed it live food? Are you feeding it CGD at all?

post up a photo when you can ;-)

The shop owner only fed them CGD and currently i am feeding them crickets as a treat...

My mum wont let me feed the dusted crickets because it is cruel to dust them and then let them get eaten so i have to feed mashed up banana with calcium in it which i would do as a treat.

i will post some pics in a bit...

I really don't understand how it is cruel to dust them, as they're getting eaten anyway...

You can use many different fruits as treats, so don't feel you're restricted to banana. Papaya, mango, kiwi, peach, and many more can be eaten by crested geckos.

my mum is just like that...
It is cruel enough that they are getting eaten, it is far too cruel to put them in a bag with the dust, shake them and then putting them in the fridge for them to get eaten afterwards...
are her actual words...

Banana is easiest for me as my dad has them for breakfast so we have a good supply... thanks for the help

i dont see how it is cruel but ok .. they are food .. if anything the actual act of feeding them is cruel .. not dusting them..

You can also put a small dish of calcium in there
like a lid from a juice bottle or something should be fine and your geckos should self regulate their calcium intake.

they dont always take it though
but i guess if you are mixing some with banana that might be okay as well

putting them in the fridge for them to get eaten afterwards

why are they being put in the fridge after being dusted ?

usually you just dust them right before putting them in the tank

You don't need to do that.

Do you think crested geckos food in the wild gets put in the fridge?
I have worked for a very large breeder and have never even heard of such a thing.
