Crested reproduction q's

I was wondering many a thing about crested geckos.

Firstly, how many eggs do they lay in a clutch?

How often do they lay eggs?

When incubating, is a heat lamp necessary or would a heat mat be ok?

would a small plastic box with tissue be fine or should i use some foam with ridges on?

How long does it take for the eggs to hatch? i have heard around 70-90 days is this correct?

Mt geckos so far are unsexable but i was cuious because if they do start having eggs, it would be better to know now than later when they are already being born.

Also, is it safe to keep the new borns with the parents or do they need to be seperated and for how long?

My final question is, would Swallow aquatics (a fish shop with a new reptiles section) buy them from me? currently they have one male that is quite large and for sale for £89.95 and that is all they have...

Any answers would be much appreciated...

if your geckos are unsexable i think you should separate them and not think about them reproducing until they are both sexually mature

if the female ends up gravid before she is ready it is really not good for her at all.

I was wondering many a thing about crested geckos.

Firstly, how many eggs do they lay in a clutch?

Two, although sometimes there is only one - but not often

How often do they lay eggs?

Officially 21-28 days, although I've found it to be closer to an even month

When incubating, is a heat lamp necessary or would a heat mat be ok?

Really if your seriously interested you should get or make a proper incubator, and I notice you don't ask the proper incubation temps (78 degrees) it is easier to control the temperatures in an incubator

would a small plastic box with tissue be fine or should i use some foam with ridges on?

NEITHER! you should use vermiculite, pearlite or some commercially available hatching medium, in a a plastic gladware with holes poked in the sides near the top and the lid on

How long does it take for the eggs to hatch? i have heard around 70-90 days is this correct?

More like 60-88 although mine usually hatch early on in that period

My geckos so far are unsexable but i was curious because if they do start having eggs, it would be better to know now than later when they are already being born.

Well you only have a 50% chance but it is better to research...

Also, is it safe to keep the newborns with the parents or do they need to be separated and for how long?

Keep them separate because the parents can go cannibalistic and you shouldn't house geckos together that are more than an inch apart in length

My final question is, would Swallow aquatics (a fish shop with a new reptiles section) buy them from me? currently they have one male that is quite large and for sale for £89.95 and that is all they have...

You honestly expect us to know what your local pet store's policy is? On another note from the sound of this question I'm getting a few ideas and I'd just like to tell you that if you don't purposely want to breed them just separate them until you know what they are

Any answers would be much appreciated...

Crested geckos are prolific breeders and the females can store sperm so if your not serious about having tanks and tanks of baby geckos don't try to breed yours (and given how readily they breed all that entails is keeping a male and female together) - Just warning you because you seem extremely naive about the whole thing.

I was just curious for the future, i have got a breeding book now and am using that as a guide...

The annoying thing is that they lay so many eggs, it would be really cool if i could just have two eggs to make it like a family but that wont happen...:(

I will think more in depth on the matter but at the moment my geckos are about 1-2 months old so wont be ready at all yet...

Yes they do keep breeding, in the end you will have to separate them, for the females health, so if you are not positive that you want to go through a full breeding season...
