First Gargoyle Gecko !!

Well I finally have my first Gargoyle Gecko. I'm not sure how old it is yet or if it can even be sexed. If the sizes are similar to Cresties then I'd say 6-8 months old. It's super mellow and sweet and I will hopefully find this one a mate by next season.

Anyways .... on to the pics !!!!

I have this garg set up in a 12"x12"x18"H exo-terra until it gets a bit bigger. There are lots of hiding places including a cork bark tube. I was going to put a small 15W desk lamp over top of the enclosure as I've heard that they like a bit of a basking spot. However ... since it's been so hot .... still sitting around 80-82 deg. F. in my place even with the A/C running ... I thought I'd leave it off for now. There is still some ambient light from a nearby window.

So here's a pic of the enclosure .... Can you find the garg?? ;-)

Please share any comments or suggestions that you may have.

Thanks ... Dyesub Dave.

looks female to me. Nice colours :) I like what you've done with the spoon.

What are you using for substrate?

Thanks .... I hope it's a female!! ;-)

The substrate is a type of foam similar to humidifier foam. It's very sturdy and easy to clean and doesn't break off easily like some of the other types of foam. I usually use either paper towels or foam until the geckos are old enough to have some type of natural substrate in their enclosure.

I look forward to finding this one a mate next season and see if I can get some little garglets going. Almost everything else seems to breed in this place. LOL.

Well it is more likely to be female than male, as that's how auriculatus work (opposite way round to crested geckos and chahoua). Apologies if you already knew!

To begin with, I was worried that the substrate was black sand, but the foam sounds a great idea! I would never have thought of it before. I suppose its important to not buy the very cheap foam though, incase it leaks dye.
Nice setup though Dave! I assure you this will not be your last gargoyle gecko ;)

I'm not quite sure what you mean by 'OPPOSITE WAY ROUND'?

Oh ... don't worry. The only geckos that get sand are the desert geckos. And I only have two of those .... little Micro Geckos. And I have no doubt that I will have at least one more garg soon. The numbers in my signature don't quite reflect what I have now ... it's a 'LIL' bit higher. LOL

lol sorry I didn't really explain myself very well.

In crested geckos, females are less common. I'd say that what geckos hatch out are around 60% male and 40% Female. With chahoua, its more like 80% and 20%, which is why chahoua females are like gold dust!
With gargoyle geckos, its more around 40%:60% (M:F)

I remember the first auriculatus we had, and we now have about 12 i think.
